I believe they already make too much. Members of Congress should make the average income from the state they represent. If they want a raise, they should do something to improve the economy in their home state.

I have just the opposite view. You can think of their salary as the lobbying dollars from the people they represent. They get 200k/year or whatever from their district but several million from corporations. Who are they going to listen to? If you want them to serve your interests you need to pay them more than the corporations are paying them.

Perhaps he should contact his lobbyists. They seem to have lots of money to spend on Congress persons.

Makes $174,000 a year and wants more money!

Sounds like a typical Democrat.

Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL) made headlines this week with his suggestion that members of Congress, who make at least $174,000 a year, need a raise because of D.C.’s high cost of living:

Guess the thought never occurred to them that their own party's platform is the CAUSE of the 'high' cost of living.

Americans who ACTUALLY work make a whole lot less. Congress doesn't seem to be able to get anything worthwhile done for the country but want a raise. I imagine they will vote in a raise soon.

I wonder if he has any idea of what the average citizen goes through trying to survive these economic times.
