Not sure if this topic was previously posted on ATS. I did a search on various keywords from the article and title with no hits. If this shouldn't be in the PC forum then mods please switch to the a more applicable location..

The story basically comes down to a waste of flesh thug comes out of his car, shoots a cop in the face and the cops return fire killing the criminal.

It makes sense in an era of both police brutality and escalated stupid criminal behavior that the Police have to release statements like this :"To allay possible concerns, Boston prosecutors released video Friday of the shooting of a police officer last month that resulted in the killing of the gunman."

Im also glad to see that the community leaders called it like it is:

After Moynihan was wounded and West killed, police and and local leaders sought to allay community concerns at a time when officer-involved shootings have led to protests throughout the nation.

Scott, of the Black Ministerial Alliance of Greater Boston, said Moynihan was shot "assassination-style." He called for calm in Roxbury.

"This is not about 'Black Lives Matter,' " he said, referring to a protest movement that emerged after the shootings.

"It's about 'All Lives in the Community Matter,' and it's about the police ... responding to a concern from the community."

Nobody forced them to be a cop.

These types of threads rarely get much response. Unless there's some way to point out the cop did something wrong anyway.

@Fox - you're right, nobody forced them to do anything. Just like nobody forces a commercial fisherman to go out and fish. Yet everybody wants to trot that job out as being more dangerous.

In this case, nobody forced West to shoot anybody. Inconvenient truths and such

You know what.. You're right. Every cop is there BY CHOICE.

They freely elect to serve their community and accept all the dangers such as this that go hand in hand with the job.

So, when this happens we should be as quick to defend just as quickly as we are to condenm.

God protect them, because today in América, I wouldnt like to be a cop.

What about communities that are not represented by the authorities who "serve' them?

In my semi-quiet town, 100% white male cops and 80% arrests are blacks.

Ever considered the possibility that 80% of the criminals are black in your town?

It's abnormal to be arrested for nothing. Sure, there are outliers, but by and large if you don't break the law, you don't get arrested. Regardless of color.

They aren't represented in the community, their peers, may have less bias.
