Wow. Just wow. Sometimes I'll come across an item so stupidly priced that it truly TRULY shocks and repulses me.

Some of you may have heard about Urban Outfitters , it's an online retailer that specializes in mostly needless hipsterish items and clothing. I have an Aunt who collects their pint glasses, and we gift them to her for birthdays, etc. Today, while shopping online for a glass, I came across this Rope Swing

It's a One Hundred and Twenty Dollar ROPE SWING.

This priceless rope swing comes with 10 feet of pro Manila rope, and one 10 inch diameter piece of wood to sit your a** upon. What makes it worth $120.00 you ask? Well, and you'll be so impressed, your wallet will be screaming to let loose it's credit cards...the circle of wood, barely large enough to accommodate a butt...comes from the floor joist of a 19th century house. Well gooolly. Sign me up.

No.

Real world cost?

Pro Manila Rope : $.78/ft. Hardware Store.

10" Diameter Wood Circle : Likely Free as F***. Your Dad's Failed Woodworking Projects.

Grand Total : $10 maximum.

What is the world coming to that this rope swing is being hocked for such an exorbitant price? It's anyones choice if they'd like to buy this and wait for it to ship instead of making one in an afternoon...but my lord...what is wrong with this picture.

Rant complete.

The price of everything is through the roof.

It costs as much just for basic food today for 1 person a year as a brand new corvette back in the day.

So some clever person is ripping apart a 19th century house and selling it off as pieces of useless junk? That's the real tragedy. Why not set up a Go Fund Me site and restore a historic home instead?

Pfffffttttt

Or are they? Does this fancy rope swing come with a certificate of authenticity? Or is a junker of some sort rooting through abandoned houses, stealing aged wood? I doubt this wood comes from anywhere other than Home Depot.

look at it this way if someone can make a profit from people stupid enough
to pay that then good for him.

and anyone stupid enough to pay that for an item like that deserves to be shafted

Start a blog on your old house adventures and I'm sure you'd get people willing to help you fund the old house money pit madness.

Ever been on a bicycle when the gear shift fumbles the shift and the chain just raps itself around the spinning gear and the whole thing locks up????? That is what just happened to my brain when I read about that swing. Mind boggling.

I can get You something even "better" for $100 even.. Hand strung fiber from the elusive "White Palms of Flori-Duh" these are albino in nature and grow within the confines of the famous Coral Castle. Legend has it that the fibers each contain hidden messages.
The wood is "ALL Natural" and is hand gathered as it floats to it's end upon the world famous Withlacoochee River, one of 2 rivers in the world that flow North..

$100 + Postage & Handling figure about $25.00 for that...

Butt (pun intended) the one I'm going to make...uh...er... get You a deal on is "All Natural" even the wood it is way better..

Me too. I'm more shocked than outraged. I want to meet the person who says, "I need this!" and find out why the heck they would need this.

I agree that consumer prices for many things are absurd. However, that's capitalism, right? If people are willing to pay $120 for something you can make for a few dollars, what's the problem? Also, what's stopping you from making them & selling them yourself? You could even sell them for $20, make good profit, and save your customers $100. Win-win situation.

I firmly believe each and every person who wants a rope swing should be making their own rope swing.

That does it.

Hubby has a set of classic whitewall tires from a 1955 Chevy Bel Air collecting dust leaning up against the side of the garage out back, and refuses to get rid of the dang things because he figures he could use them for something some day...

Well, it seems that "some day" has arrived (yay me) !

I'm going to convince him to make them into 4 tire swings and sell them on Ebay for $220 each... I'll even use some ink from my printer and print out a certificate of authenticity for each swing.

I heart capitalism !

Make up a story about some celebrity or another dying in an accident that involves the tires. Sell them for $1000.00!
