Why don't you explain for the class why you are against a flat tax

Progressives like me are FOR a flat tax.

Close all loopholes,or cap deductions at $17,000like Romney said.
Now the Romneys of our country pay 20% instead of 12.5%

This is popular, Republicans want it to be revenue neutral so they can say they didn't raise taxes, but if u were only paying 12% like Romney, you're taxes would technically be going up. These rich people don't want that to happen.

Democrats should ACCEPT a revenue neutral tax reform if it would change the system for the better, I jus don't think the repubs are bringing a true flat tax to the floor. Because taxes will be going up on very rich people who have been paying less than the 25-30% everyone else pays.

I love how the article states how high our deficit is in the trillions (Obama's doing), then blames it on republicans allowing corporations to get away with not paying for it because of loopholes. So no matter how much debt the country can be put in by overspending, when it can't be paid for it becomes the fault of not having the right tax laws and this is all republicans doing it.

What a crock of shet our politicians are..

Finding new ways to tax is what this Administration is quite famous for, yet slowing down or stopping the irresponsible spending isn't part of the problem somehow. Actually, the spending is the whole problem. Criminal spending and looting the treasury and then blaming the debt afterwards on bad tax laws. Death to them all.

Sounds like Bernie still hates everything American.

Could you quote me from the article or OP where Mr Sanders says he hates these things that your claiming he does?

Please stay on topic with the OP, I know you would hate to see this post go off topic.

Well the "Corporations" *ARE* following the law right?

How more "American" can they get?

Congress as a whole failed when they forgot to put these changes into the Dodd-Frank bill.

Could'a passed easily back then.

It blows my mind when you post this stuff...

Dodd-frank passed by the skin of it's teeth and only after the GOP stripped out as much as they could.

The fact of the matter is that the loopholes ARE legal. I take every freaking deduction and credit I can as permitted by law. If you do as well, you are also using "loop holes" to lower your tax burden.

I'd have more respect for progressives complaining about taxes not being too high if the rich progressives voluntarily donated to the IRS to prove they mean it.

You get hypocrites like Warren Buffett parroting that BS about his secretary's tax rate and coming up with the "buffett rule" but then he is fighting paying the IRS $1 billion in taxes owed.

We're in trillions of dollars of debt BOTH because A) we've been hemorrhaging money into the Middle East since the Millennium (for corporate profit) and B) we've been letting businesses and Wall Street get away with murder forever (for corporate profit). Easy, really. Maybe this could go some of the way to alleviate half of those problems.

The question is if all income is treated equally? Capital gains is not the same as wage earner income. However, I believe if the rates are low enough across the board, we wouldn't have to distinguish between varying income types.

I don't think a 3rd party would do much to help the political situation in the US. I certainly don't think it would hurt it, but I think its akin to duct taping your car back together after you have hit a brick wall going 100mph.

Sanders is just a communist that wants to punish successful business's. Everyone knows we need to give these companies tax breaks so they will create jobs. Just look at all the jobs they have created in China and other nations overseas because those people need to the jobs more than the Americans who just want a hand out. This is what the right wingers will say.

If Sanders were to run for President I wouldn't hesitate to vote for him. There is a rumor going around that he may run for the Democrat nomination even though he is an Independent. He is about the only one left that actually seems to want to do what is necessary to try and fix this countries financial problems and that problem has been the greed of the companies and the people that own them. They have had decades of riding off the welfare of the people and it's high time they step up and start paying their fair share.

So , your a Commie then Buster ? Figures...............

I guess the founders were commies too huh? They said everyone should be treated equally that means they should be taxed equally as well. It's really not a good idea to flaunt your ignorance when trying to assume what another person is when you know nothing about that person.

I think we need multiple parties that are not just posers from the two big parties, which is what most of our third parties are today. It is very insulting for a third party candidate to have been and R or D until it's convenient to be a third party candidate.

You said in your Own Words that if Bernie Sanders ran for President , that you would Vote for him . Considering that Mr. Sanders considers himself a Communist , I think your Post confirms what I said . Ignorance has nothing to do with stating the Obvious . Sorry Buster , nothing Personal towards you ............

Bernie Sander considers himself a Socialist not a Communist. There is a difference between the two. And yes ignorance has a lot to do with it you just need to do some checking before calling commie when the person obviously isn't one.

Sanders has been an enigma, though you have to respect that he keeps being elected, so some folks are keen to his ideas...

He has spun his wheels in Congress since, this attempt by him may be to join the executive branch in circumventing the body he is currently serving?

Toss his ideas out there and see if the Prez bites?

1600 PennAve resident sure has no problem bypassing Legislative power, Bernie is just trying to get his voice heard where the action is?

Still a sad reflection on the current state of of elected government in DC....

Both are Parasites that feed off the Ignorance and Suffering of the Masses while at the same time offering no Solution to their plight other than Tyranny and Cultural Enslavement . Righty ? As in Personal Freedom for a Society of Just Laws that All Men Agree to Obey ? A Society of Self Worth , where the Individual Actually has a Say in how he is Governed by his Elected Officials who are Sworn by an Oath to Uphold the Rule of Law , and are Held Accountable if they do not ? If that is the Case , then I would consider myself Not a Righty , but a Freedom Lover who Respects his Fellow Man's God Given Right to Live in Peace regardless of the Tyranny Others might try to Inflict on him .

Like capitalism is any better it thrives by making slaves of the masses by putting power in the hands of the few just like communism. Look at the state America is in now this was brought about by the wonderful capitalist system. There are many different forms of Socialism it allows for people to become wealthy and own property the people that says socialism is like communism are ignorant when it comes to socialism.

What you are describing is what happens with crony capitalism where our politicians legislate laws for their own enrichment along with their big business lobbyist. Both sides of the isle are guilty. We no longer really have a true free market with minimal regulation where businesses are allowed to thrive and fail.

Where has socialism ever created wealth? Socialism takes wealth from the individual and forcibly redistributes it to the masses.

So...a couple of items..

A company that Buffet runs is disputing whether THE COMPANY owes those taxes. The IRS isn't even sure why they claimed the number, they are trying to make their case and sort out the math. Buffett as portal to his investors (Like Romney et al) is legally obligated to make sure he pays the correct amount and not "donate" investors money to the IRS.

As far as his personal taxes? You want him to voluntarily give money to the IRS so that other Billionaires and corporations may continue to benefit from their lower tax breaks? Transferring that wealth to others less apt to pay what is due?

Instead Buffet, indisputably the worlds greatest investor and likely the globe's wealthiest man...I think he fluxuates between #1-3 depending on the math...instead he has pledged to give away virtually all his wealth when he dies and is the worlds greatest philanthropist!

He literally gives away more money than any other human to have ever lived.
Buffett now the world's most generous man
www.cnbc.com...

You have really got to have your ideological hate on to accuse him of hypocrisy..

He pays what is due in taxes and will tell anyone that listens that the system is rigged in his and other billionaires favor..And is demanding it be fixed to be more fair.

And he is literally the most qualified person to know on the planet...

If he didn't speak those truths he would be worshipped as a god by the GOP...The most successful capitalist to ever live as measured in dollars.
