Star Trek fans told to stop 'Spocking' Canadian $5 bill

Bank of Canada executives have urged Star Trek fans to stop a campaign to deface currency as a tribute to late actor Leonard Nimoy.

Bank of Canada spokeswoman, Josianne Menard, has confirmed the stunt is not illegal, but she urges Spock fans to stop.

She goes on to say that writing on a bank note may reduce its lifespan and interfere with the security features.

I did not know that people were Spocking bills, but I am extremely amused by it!

Star Trek fans should make and print their own "Star Trek" currency - every crew member from the series.

I'm surprised it isn't illegal, everything else seems to be these days. Haha this is a cool trick though. It is amazing how much it looks like Spock!

If it is they ripped it off of ST. I think he introduced that in an episode called Amok Time. Mid 60's.

Started to watch first star treks last week when I found them on Netflix.. now I'm on episode 6 and the sign has not reached me yet Kinda funny to watch episodes made before i was even born nevertheless finding them fascinating.

Most of my countrymen couldn't tell you who it actually is unless they read the name off the bill.

As far as they are concerned, they aren't defacing Laurier, they are defacing a $5 for funsies.
