Doesn't that make far more sense than the alternative?
Sort of . . since I don't go for the idea that you are presenting this as an alternative to.
Jesus did not die to "pay" for our sins. Jesus took on the appearance of a sinner to be one of us, but to then rise above that, like we need to rise above sinfulness, with God's help.

Sin is transgression against God and God is love.

Know love, Know God ( saysJohn in The Bible).

God holds The Keys to Life and Death because God is Love and Christ's Life demonstrates the promise of God's Love which is received and brings us to eternal life.

The two most important things is to Love God and your neighbor but if you don't know that God IS Love and Light then how can you love him by receiving the free gift of love and eternal life he offers and being filled with praise/gratitude?

Peace to you all.
God loves you.

I really hate all the God is love stuff, when god (according to the bible) was a genocidal maniac who slaughtered millions of people for not believing in something no one told them. God doesn't get to be love, and murder every philistine child. God doesn't get to be love and flood the world killing all but one family.....

Try and objectively explain this Christianity construct to an Alien for example, if you are honest, you must concur that it is a ridiculous tale.

You could substitute Gandalf for God and say the same things. Doesn't make it fact.

Yet there's not an iota of historical evidence (ie. contemporaneous documentation) proving that Jesus ever lived and there's certainly no evidence that God exits. Making claims about what they did and what they want is rather silly.

Most Christians haven't read the entire BIble. They read assigned, selected verses, almost entirely in the New Testament. Preachers know that a very effective way to ensure that someone stops being a Christian or never becomes one in the first place is to get them to read the entire Bible.
