Also since when is being compassionate never saying anything disagreeable. I'm incredibly nice and kind to everyone I meet from the lady at the tollbooth to the cashier at panera to the douchey Jewish guy whose daughter I sometimes tutor privately to the kids I teach. Last I checked, disagreeing with anonymous people on internet forums doesn't negate kindness in real life.

Not to mention that I don't take any of this personally. I'm not sitting here cursing or anything. I just try to get my points across. I apologize for not being a perfectly polite, inoffensive pushover. It's hard to be inoffensive when discussing difficult topics. Do you have any suggestions on how I can improve? I don't think I've ever been out of line.

Also what actions? What problems did he cause? He made a joke and people took it seriously. That's on them if you ask me. Same thing happened with the guy on the plane who got taken off by guys in hazmat suits. Common link. Both black. But yeah I should shut up. No one ever judges other people superficially. We live in the enlightened West where there are no problems and everyone coexists in perfect harmony, right?

After reading the article I have to say.....

I think the guy deserves it.

What he said was not a "joke". If he has simpoly said, "I'm avoiding my ex eife she has Ebola." I could see that being a joke, but the man also claimed (according to the article) that she had just returned from West Africa. So he is not telling a joke, he is telling a story, there is a difference. He set out to add details to his story to make it appear real.

So in my mind, this is like yelling fire in a crowed theater.

Weird because it was a joke. None of it was remotely true.

www.cleveland.com...

Either way clear double standard unless this guy who did a full routine as a prank including chasing people down, has been arrested as well.

Arrest these guys too.

mobile.reuters.com...

So the NFL gets a free pass. Now we need to see if an NFL player does it and gets arrested. If the team gets off with an apology and a single black individual player does not then it's a fact :p

Lol. So just more "racism is dead" rhetoric with nothing to back it up.

Uh I don't hate white people and I'm not racist.

LMAO..........um, okaaaay
What ever you say

Last I checked, disagreeing with anonymous people on internet forums doesn't negate kindness in real life.

True....but I've seen you attack a member here mercifully and be mean to them, which had nothing to do with the topic itself
It's like you made it personal because they didn't post something that you agreed with

You make very valid points, good ones in fact, but then you blow it by attacking the poster personally, which takes away from your comment and makes you look like a bully

Also what actions? What problems did he cause? He made a joke and people took it seriously.

Really? Do I actually have to explain that one to you?
If I do, then I doubt telling you what he did wrong would sit right with you

No sh#t people took him seriously!!!!
Ebola is nothing to laugh about
It doesn't matter if the guy was black, white, pink or purple, he created a sh#t storm with his tasteless and ignorant story about his ex-wife having Ebola and coming back from Africa
Whoever did it ought to have been arrested for the chaos that HE started with his stupid antics

All you are doing is making an excuse for him by blaming everybody else that only reacted to his BS story
You'd be great for the Obama administration, the way you are trying to deflect the blame onto other people instead of the ones who actually are at fault

We live in the enlightened West where there are no problems and everyone coexists in perfect harmony, right?

We will never live in harmony as you stated, as long as people like you keep bringing up skin color on every issue that comes along

It seems to be relevant since there's not one story of a non black person who was arrested for a joke. Did you check out my links at all? What was your opinion on the white guy doing the elaborate Ebola prank?

You're exactly correct. I do fall into the personal attack trap. I'm working on that but it's not easy to avoid. I've been personally attacked note often than I've attacked people and I'm fine with that. I'm capable of taking criticism. I hope you aren't referring to the person who posts nothing but threads designed to create strife and offers nothing of constructive value.

Yes you do have to explain it. What actual damage did he cause? The damage was caused by the overreaction of others. Was the shutdown of a rite aid in NJ over a cough justified too? We can't just immediately overreact without facts. That's what got us where we are now. I know I'm guilty too but I'll admit fault when I am. I've admitted fault in many threads and have never pretended to be an all knowing saint.

How am I racist against whites? Because I empathize with blacks I must be anti white? Classic us vs then mentality. I'm for all people. I have yet to mistreat anyone on the basis of race, religion, or sexual orientation.

As usual, you love to point out ones skin color

Okay, if the man had never said a word about Ebola, which in itself can be a deadly health risk to others nearby, there would never have been a reason for an 'overreaction' as you stated

How is it overreaction when the people were not in on the joke?

Remember, with every 'action' is a 're-action'

Once again, you are deflecting the blame onto others
If the man had never mentioned Ebola, well.........*sigh*
We would not be discussing this issue then, now would we

How am I racist against whites? Because I empathize with blacks I must be anti white? Classic us vs then mentality. I'm for all people

Well, this is just my personal opinion, but through the years I've learned that those who constantly bring up 'race' are the ones with the issue, and well, you bring attention to it often, even when there is no need to

Nothing wrong with that mind you, but it does say a lot when you may not mean for it to

I empathize with people when they've been wronged, but it's not because of their skin color but more to do with whatever ordeal they are going through
Not all blacks like being portrayed as victims all the time anyway
Many blacks are proud and don't want to fall into the helpless 'victim' category

You're exactly correct. I do fall into the personal attack trap. I'm working on that but it's not easy to avoid. I've been personally attacked note often than I've attacked people and I'm fine with that. I'm capable of taking criticism.

We all have at one point or other
When I first joined, I used to let it get to me

Over time tho, I've learned to either change threads or just close up for the night and come back later
I'm getting better about not allowing myself to be dragged into personal attacks
Better, but not the best...LOL
I make mistakes too, I'm only human.................I think

Read the police report linked in the article.

The casino lost money.

That's the complaint.

The casino isn't racist.

The casino lost money because they decided to shut the casino down. Last I checked jokes can't close doors on their own.

So why did they "close it down"?

Because the guy is black?

Is that your conclusion?

Hmmm.

It's a learning process. You've attacked me here several times showing how we can all make the mistake even knowing about it.

How do I constantly bring up race? That's quite a generalization to make since you've known me a very short time and only through text in a few threads.

I'll leave the rest alone for now but I repeat again. Did you look at my links? I'm very very curious about your take on the Ebola prank video from the ATS link I provided.

They closed it down because they are ignorant and fearful. How did the guy close it? If I made a clear joke about something and you massively overreacted that's on you in my opinion. It'd interesting how the crowd that usually rants about free speech and not turning things into something they are not will take something like this and support those who made something out of nothing. You keep telling me not to bring race into it because it's an overreaction. How about not locking down buildings because of jokes? That seems at least as ridiculous as bringing race into a few that MAY be race related. Prove me wrong by finding me a white guy who was arrested for an Ebola joke and I'll happily retract my supposition. Also please watch the Ebola prank video from the ATS thread i linked.

Instantaneous massive overreactions are the new American past times. It's gonna get real fun if Ebola sticks around.

No, I don't know you but I do know how to read

Do you really want me to go through and bring up all your comments regarding 'race'??
No big deal truly, but it is when one tries to throw out the race card when there is no need to

The casino lost money because they decided to shut the casino down. Last I checked jokes can't close doors on their own.

And why did they shut the casino down?

Because a man went on about Ebola, making claims that had people worried about their own health

Now then, why is that a bad thing?
Because Ebola is contagious and deadly which is why people that come in contact with it are put in quarantine for 21 days

So, I repeat--Why did the casino close down?
To find out what the hell was going on with this man and to see if he really did come in contact with someone from Africa that had Ebola

Ebola is contagious and deadly
The casino wanted and needed to find out if it's patrons and employees were at risk for the disease hence why they had to shut down

At the risk of others and out of caution in case the man was telling the truth, the casino shut down which in turn cost them money

Once again,with every action is a re-action

If the man had not 'acted' with his stupid stunt, then the casino would not have to had 're-acted' by closing down
Hence the man never would have been arrested

This was not a joke by a long shot
That is what the guy is saying to get out of trouble
Should have thought about that first, now he's got to suffer the consequences of his actions

And it's no one's fault but his own
No one made him do something so stupid as pretend to be near someone with Ebola, in a populated business no less

Stupid, stupid, stupid....

And no, I haven't checked out your link yet, sorry.....will do
