What a nice guy

You're the nice guy ... think that's evident down in Iraq, Lybia and Afghanistan. A few million dead ... whose counting. A few thousand deformed children born, from "not quite"-depleted Uranium. Murder, theft, bank robbery ...

I really "hope" the Russians acquire the "guts" to put the US down, like a mad dog they are.

But, I'm not holding my breath. :-)

Please do not undermine my knowledge of a nuclear winter, the fall out, the chaos to ensue after the dust has settled.

The US has used, and are using ... nuclear abilities all the time. They just call'em "mini" nukes ... or "not quite"-depleted Uranium.

But Putin doesn't have the guts for it ... wait till the Russians have put him aside ... then you can start pissing in your pants.

No. The accusations that the US used nuclear weapons in Iraq were made by defeated Iraqi officers who needed to explain their failure. Depleted uranium weapons are not "nuclear." They do contain a certain amount of residual radiation, which is why they should not be used, but they are essentially used because of their mass.

We need a purge of some kind. Nuclear doesn't seem to be on the top of my list, i don't think anyone is stupid enough to ruin the world...not, not unless that have extraterrestrial connections.

But a many of innocents including myself (if i don't survive) will need to be released from this existence.
A purge is coming, be it by a virus, nuclear, tectonics, weak magnetic field, CME, or.....heck, E.T.s'

I prepare myself for events that have an ability of me surviving. I am well aware of the consequences.

Regards,

Because you have a death wish, that doesn't mean the bombs should fly

I hope no world leaders share your views.

Putin has no intention of firing nuclear weapons at anyone. He is standing up to the West which makes him even more popular in Russia. He is kind of like Kim Jong-un in that he likes to here himself speak. Putin (like Kim) knows that actually going to war will risk his control of his empire. It is easy to make threats and make headlines in the paper and on the news but Putin/Kim are not going to risk losing power. Both men have an ego that needs to be fed. Nothing to worry about. Putin especially knows that Obama is in a position of weakness and he is exploiting his position. It is really that simple.

Is this not old news? I think it is from like a month ago?

Posted October 16th - at the source link. Not sure that that's a complete answer to your question; but it's new to someone. Myself included.

I don't put it past him to take drastic measures - but I do believe that he understands the consequence of a nuclear detonation. If I had to guess, IF the word Nuclear was even specifically used, I would imagine that it's more metaphoric than literal.

I hope. Putin just kinda don't give a [snizzip]; and we're actively 'poking the bear' ( even though he is out hunting, still not a good idea ).

If you've ever read Pravda, the official Russian news website, you will see that it has more wack job conspiracy theories, than ATS, with absolutely no editorial control. Putin is just playing his politics dick forward, to test Obama's resolve. If the US takes this seriously, or are even spooked, they are fools, they should just mind their own business.

The Crimea region is of great strategic importance to Russia, and mostly occupied by Russians, who by the way had a 'democratic' referendum with regards to their succession from the Ukraine. I say let it be, and let cooler temperaments prevail.

War between superpowers these days, seems to be economic in nature, so the game is on.
Russia just need to cut gas supplies to Europe for the bluff to play out.

Hope I'm right , and Putin is not actually a homicidal/suicidal maniac.

although quite spectacular, Nukes are so 80s.

As for Obama, I hope this the last example of pre-emptive Nobel Piece prizes.

That so called democratic vote only held two choices. #1. Seperate from Ukraine #2. Join Russia.
Not much of a democracy if you ask me....

I read that, but the quote they used didn't come across to me as a nuclear threat.

This is what was quoted.

The United States went so far as to declare the suspension of our cooperation in space exploration and nuclear energy. They also suspended the activity of the Russia-US Bilateral Presidential Commission established in 2009, which comprised 21 working groups dedicated, among other things, to combating terrorism and drug trafficking.

At the same time, this is not the first downturn in relations between our countries. We hope that our partners will realize the futility of attempts to blackmail Russia and remember what consequences discord between major nuclear powers could bring for strategic stability. For our part, we are ready to develop constructive cooperation based on the principles of equality and genuine respect for each others’ interests.

I read that and don't see anything regarding a nuclear threat.

But it is...You have to read between the lines somewhat but you will see the threat:

"We hope that our partners will realize the futility of attempts to blackmail Russia and remember what consequences discord between major nuclear powers could bring for strategic stability.

Here they are saying: " you can't stop us...." and "Don't try to stop us because we have nukes...."

In the US, you also have only 2 choices.
I don't wish to take sides, but the Russian contingent was prepared to defend their 'referendum' with defensive military action, which may shed some light on the actual sentiments involved.

Don't know how many of you guys remember The Cold War.....I do.

This was pretty much par for the course back in the day - the usual vitriolic rhetoric designed for public consumption whilst behind closed doors the politicians were more than aware of the realities of M.A.D. and protocols were put in place to make it very, very hard to actually initiate a first strike.

Putin knows the game as well as Andropov, Brezhnev, etc.....not so sure about Obama though.

They'll have their public spat and play their tit for tat sanctions game but when it comes to it the status quo will remain the same.
Why?
Because its in their best interests for it to do so.......at least I hope so!

I don't think it was meant as a threat. I think he is just clearly stating what we already know, and that is that US imperial aggression is pushing the world to the point where nuclear confrontation is a growing possibility. The Russians already had a point where they thought they were being attacked by multiple US nuclear launches in the 80's due to a computer glitch, and the commander refused to do a nuclear retaliation. I think its quite clear by our change in policy to a nuclear first strike option that the US will likely be the initiator of any future nuclear hostilities, and Russia and everyone else knows this.

Well, now. Since Putin has hinted at nuclear strikes on Europe and possibly the U.S.(i.e. WMD), aggressively invaded neighbouring countries and, for all intents and purposes, created a dictatorship, I'd say that Russia is ripe for a freedom invasion. They have large natural gas reserves that we could confiscate... I mean liberate... and other mineral reserves that I'm sure we could do something with. Besides, if we could conquer... I mean liberate ... Russia, that would give us a prime position to control... I mean monitor... what goes on in the East.

So, what are we waiting for? Let's go git 'em. Boots on the ground, shock and awe, and all that.

I hope people realize I'm just being cynical. I get so tired of all the saber rattling and d*** wagging that I want to just line them all up and slap them across the face like a 3 Stooges movie.
