What's the deal with 2,000,000+ stars being awarded to certain members?

I did a search and checked through the forum topics but didn't see any discussions relating to this. I also tried looking through the info tab but sometimes this stuff is hard to dig up on this site. If there is a thread on this please point the way. I just hope its not buried somewhere in a old thread that no one pays attention to anymore since to me this is kind of important.

Anyway- I'm sure we've all seen that many members suddenly have over 2,000,000 stars, even more in some cases, with an absurdly high WATS score etc etc.. There's no way that these stars were accumulated the traditional way. So it seems they're being bestowed (like an applause?).

Does anyone know why certain members have so many stars? Is this some secret club on ATS? What exactly are they being awarded for? Is it a glitch? Why 2 million? I just don't get it.

What's the word on this?

It's a glitch and it's been posted about before. Trust me, I had a good laugh when I noticed mine had skyrocketed a few days ago. I'd call it The Glitch Club, but it's also irritating because it is a measure of quality, so The Glitch Curse is more apt.

Bowser finally beaten Mario and the stars he was carrying felt to some members who now have the duty of saving the princess.

Sadly is just a bug

It's a glitch.
If you go to the list of members and arrange them in "number of stars" order, you find that at least 700 have got silly numbers of stars. Mostly from a particular group of older members, I believe. The coding probably adds in the date or something like that.
