I think this idea is always present in discussions of aliens and religion, but a simple and elegant truth just shifted into place in my head, and I wanted to share it with the fine folks of ATS to hear your thoughts.
(note: when I use the second person pronoun "they/them" below, I mean - with no disrespect - He/She/he/she/they/whatever is appropriate for the Being that is real to you)
As far as I can tell, just about all religions throughout human history have a common basic story: sometime in the past, a Being or Beings created us. We had direct contact and communication with them for a while, they helped us with stuff, and then they left, saying they'd be back someday. Right now they're somewhere above us. We don't have any direct contact with them at the moment, but we have faith that they'll be back when we really need their help. At some point the spit's going to hit the fan, but it's okay because they've got our backs in the end.
I know that I'm oversimplifying and generalizing, but I don't think I'm really wrong. So regardless of the specifics that each of us individually believe, it seems clear to me that we (humanity) believes in the existence of extra-terrestrial life.
What do you think? Does this rattle around in your head the way it just did mine? Or am I way off base here?

There's an uncountable amount of planets out there in the habitable zone of their stars in this universe and many others that may be out there. It would be ignorant to think there is no life out there considering we exist here on Earth as well.

Personally I need to see something with my own eyes to believe in ET. I don't dismiss it, hell am always looking for somthing in the skys that will make me a Believer . I don't believe in god as that to me is just man's ego.

I'd say that's plausible but it doesn't feel right to me. I do enjoy the idea, and of course I can't disprove it.
The short film reminds me of the opening scene from Strange Brew
Please do post it if you find it.
