Humor has taken over. It has essentially taken over this forum based page. And it makes me hurt.

It has been increasing everyday for about 3 years. I'd love to have taken the time through the years to make a statistic sheet for you all but... I wasn't focused on it until recently. And I don't have the time to do it now.

It has become irritating that almost 1 out of 3 make an unintelligent attempt at humor. Granted that blowing off steam is pleasure, but common, it's become so rhetoric that it's appalling. Can't you guys sit on your mouths and think the funny stuff instead and keep it to yourself, unless you're actually convinced it will benefit the discussion of the thread or your own point? ... In a good way at that. One doesn't always need to blurt something out just to have something to say.

Agree? Disagree?

I for one feel it has taken all the seriousness out of the whole of the ATS community and everyone just feels the need to...be accepted or something of the sorts, because it's "in".

Let's work together to make a more serious, caring, loving, genuinely happy discussion again on ATS. Many have fallen into the trap of making a bad habit in their responses.

Love you and have care for you all and hope this will make some think and act to better themselves.

Humor is how I communicate.

It may be how others communicate as well.

Tell me more how it was like back in the old days, so I can make a better comparison to go by.

This place is swamped with doom porn daily. It is also swamped with posts about the decline of America, the loss of rights, death and destruction here and among many other nations around the world...

Sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying. This place would be enough to make you drive your car off a cliff if levity was never to be had.

JMHO of course. You are very much entitled to yours as well. It takes all kinds. That's a good thing. Not a bad one.

Now that's funny....

You complain about humor then make a "funny" see the disconnect here?

To answer the question....no I can't! Women love men that make them laugh; and I need the practice.

Perhaps, what he meant of "unintelligent attempts at humor" is that for example:

If I don't understand what you are saying, then I make fun of you for it and that puts people at odds?
Instead of that, let's talk in a civil, less trivial means.

Now hear this:
No more fun at ATS, humor makes people angry.

Something doesn't sound right about that.

You bring up an excellent point. When I participate in an ATS thread, I try to be serious and factual. I sometimes miss the target on certain topics though. But when I really need to let steam out (accumulated by doomy gloomy we're all screwed type of threads) then BTS (or now Off Topic Boards) is where I head.

Laughing once in a while is therapeutic, I think. It's definitely a need.

I agree in a way.

I do dislike it when you are trying to be serious either because you are debating something of importance to you or you are angry and need to vent but someone comes a long and cracks a joke. I know some people are just trying to lighten to the mood but sometimes you need someone to not just toss aside your feelings & make light of the situation.

It's not something I had every really thought about until my boyfriend brought it up. I would try to make him feel better by cracking a joke about the situation or just trying to ease the tension & he told me how he needs to feel that emotion, even thought it's just for a moment, he still would like to feel that emotion & not have it turned it something else.

You will find that those that use humour on ATS are often the same individuals that can knock you out of the ballpark with a debate on most subjects - without the humour.

Our humor makes us more human. Of all of the emotional responses I could possibly garner when making a post, I'd rather make someone laugh, than piss someone off. If my humor pisses someone off, then so be it. You can't placate everyone...

That's just me...

Agreed beezzer. I communicate the same IRL most of the time as well. I am not adverse to having serious discussions at all and like those that are not adverse to a scant bit of humor peppered into those serious discussions at times. Many others are the same way IRL. It's difficult to come on ATS and not be the person you are off of ATS IMO. In our every day lives we meet different types of folks with different types of coping mechanisms and mannerisms. I am not sure why it shouldn't be that way on ATS.

Different strokes and all that.

Spot on Sublime. I have noticed the same with many of the "joker" posters on here. It'll shock you then impress you.

Well stated. Some of the funniest folks on here are the most intelligent. Brilliant folks throughout history have been jokesters. Look it up. Einstein used to do Vaudeville schtick, Fermi was a ventriloquist, and I believe Tesla juggled cats...

I made all of that up, of course.

No offense but the guys who have been here since the beginning (not 2012) sometimes crack wise...Whats wrong with bringing a little joy to a thread? Even when I get in heated discussions about Chemtrails with the non believers ( please I'm using an example so don't crush my spirits de-bunkers, you know who you are.....) and I get really upset, i see a comment that makes me literally laugh out loud because it was funny, and it makes me feel better..and lightens my mood..

So please, maybe we should take the RANT forums out of here because it seems like everyday someone has something to complain about..from ads, meixcans, and now humor?

What is going on here...

Your just about as serious as your picture...but I see a little smile forming..

lol

I like humour, especially when it is natural, some are naturally funny and sometimes it can add to a thread, making a point that couldn't be said any otherway with such insight, or diffusing some situations.

However, the whole popularity contest thing that has emerged recently for some ATSers is a bit tedious, as is the whole cutesy thing or 'I am more witch/ alien /hippy than you' thing and the weird virtual chat cliques that obviously about 'we are a thing and you aren't welcome in our gang' *passes the whatever to whoever* *rolls eyes* etc type of thing that thankfully has now been vanquished to some off board place away from the realms of the sane.

Oh and while this is sort of a rant page, I should probably add that being genuine on ATS is good, genuine opinions are much more palatable than those that have read other members posts and decided on mimicking their persona or opinions than talking about their own opinions, it is also obvious when they aren't being true to themselves.

ATS can be a great thing generally in the big picture of things, but it has to keep it real.
