Breaking News: 8.0 Earthquake strikes off Northern Coast of Chile; Tsunami Warning Issues

Fox ticker has it on Alert Status. Don't know for how long. Just noticed it and came here looking for more because I remember this was sort of expected.

This is the first 7+ magnitude of the year and it ended up being even more than that at 8.0 magnitude.

Usually there are one to three 8.0 magnitude earthquakes per year. With the shallow earthquake, the threat for a tsunami is very real. Hope everyone is safe. My thoughts and prayers go to those in the effected area and those with loved ones in that area.

CNN is reporting a tsunami warning was issued for Chile, Peru, and Ecuador. Wow, 6.2 miles. That could be devastating.

An 8.0 shallow quake is going to do massive damage, tsunami or not. Chile is not densely populated, so hopefully the worst hit areas are the least populated zones.

Is the tsunami warning still active? Has it expanded?

See my post on page 1 buoys in event mode even in the Caribbean. Felt reports in coming from 1500 km away but nothing from the vicinity...

Wow! I wa slistening to Ground Zero last night and Clyde and Jim berkland were both saying that they felt an earthquake was near. Berkland even called the number right an 8. Amazing well not amazing for Chile but earthquake predicting is true. wow

Christ hope they're getting to safe ground and not to many have lost there life's

8.0 is huge enough and so shallow is going to just make the damage worst, not to mention the tsunami
