Actually, I'm going to have to agree with this one particular sentiment (aka: the Progressive Conservative party we have here).

Can someone be so kind as to define exactly what a "progressive" is to us non-Americans, please ?

I don't speak americanese or politicanese. So pardon my ignorance.

In a nutshell:

They are the ones who believe people are entitled to everything they can image. The world is made up of sunshine and rainbows. Garbage men are called Waste Disposal Engineers ( so they don't get their feelings hurt). Sports have no winners or losers, everyone gets a trophy ( so they don't get their feelings hurt). You shouldn't say 'no' it can hurt peoples self esteem. Look up 'politically correct'... that's progressives. Hope no one got their feelings hurt..


Edit: Also progressives believe that issues dealing with Islamic extremists and the likes, you know people who have sworn to kill you and everyone else like you, can be dealt with by talking nicely to them.

Let me see if I have this straight... If I were to put it in American politicanese speak, then would I be correct by saying a "progressive" is a liberal-communist type of ideology ?

Noooo they know they are life threatening, they just don't understand what true hatred is.. it doesn't exist in their happy little bubble.

The trophy thing was from a big push by progressives some years back to make sure that their kids would never feel inferior. Not realizing that losing makes winning even more sweet and a big part of growing up.

They are a popular faction.

"ultra" progressives are usually ultra-Left Wing ultra-Authoritaian ultra-Totalitaian big government interventionists.

All at least 80% left of center.

Interesting take on the progressives in your country . No I am not that extreme I would fall center of left and right I do like ideas in both platforms but then there are ideas in communism that I do like as well .
