Russia needs South East to strengthen its hold on Crimea. An unfriendly government in Kiev can with the help of other countries easily block the access to Crimea. Also, eastern region has lots of industries and economic potential in which Russians have invested a lot in the last two decades. Can't let that go just like that.

EU better pay up for Ukraine's gas or Russia will have no choice but to stop the supplies and leave Kiev stranded as a functioning nation.

Ukraine already ended all Russian gas shipments and has stopped payment to Russia. But by all means continue to threaten Europe and see how far that gets Russia.

As for Russia's gamble in Crimea, it wont mean a hill of beans should Turkey shut down the bosphorus to Russian vessels.

If Russian gas is stopped to EU, then be prepared for a severe depression.

No heat, partial electricity, followed by high prices of goods and then depression.

Not that Russia will be swimming all good either. But EU will not take severe stance for 'failed state' like Ukraine.

EU does not want American sponsored war on its grounds.

If US wants to fight a war, they better take it their homelands. This is EU's policy regarding US aggressive policies.

Over and Out !!

Could this be Putin's answer to the white house's personal directive to him?

Why would EU want Ukraine anyway?. Ukraine is a failed state and would probably cost EU billions of dollars to support in several decades ahead. It seems rather strange to me all the time EU is technically bankrupt themselves , and only barely float above the water due to the endless generating of new money which everybody know will end in total collapse soon. Meanwhile a flood of third world immigrants from all over the world is arriving EU every day hitting them like a tsunami. They are driving up the prices , making the demands for houses sky rocketing and are killing their pension funds. At the same time cultural conflicts and increasing crime are destroying the countries from inside .

One should believe they had enough problems to deal with already. So what’s driving them. I think it is the political idea’s of a new global world order who drives them. They see this goal as more important then anything else and that's why they want to include Ukraine as a new member in the new world order club, no matter what the cost is. Thus the politicians who rules EU today are in my mind not aware reality anymore , they are blinded by their political world ambitions and their own brilliantness like some other German politicians was some 70 years ago , and thus they don’t think strait anymore. They probably think they are Gods and looks upon themselves as those who are pointed out to save the world.

Fortunately all these countries have got rid of their armies and weapons since those days, because the new generation of new EU politicians think all conflicts can be dealt with by using dialog and threats of economic sanctions . And if that won’t get them anywhere they could always trick the Americans into fighting the wars for them, like they tricked the naïve Clinton into attacking former Jugoslavia by ignoring Russian protests and interests in the area with an arrogance I have never seen before. It’s probably the most ugly attack I have ever seen on a defenseless country before.

Today the situation is different. Obama (and America) has become a junior EU member , and is pretty much following the guidance of the EU leaders striving for a new world order. They have already reduced the costs of the army significantly , and armed force is slowly exchanged by dialog and sanctions , which Obama and his men has learned from the Europeans.

Perhaps this is the time when the world power that America and EU once held is starting to decline. Perhaps the entire new world order idea is about to burst now? Social unrest is spreading around the world like fire , and climatically changes seems to be increasing and strengtening. In addition to this, the world economics system could experience a meltdown any moment now, and China and Russia is fortifying their positions. Meanwhile America and the European nations are rotting on their roots destroyed by blinded and mad politicians and political correct people who pretty much all are in denial of the grieve situation.

When it comes to the Russian versus the Obama/EU conflict. The latter is pretty much the only to blame. They drew first blood.

My guess is that those were armed milita. You can tell that they aren't regular military. Massively disorganized formation, no apparent leadership, random wasting of ammo, and weak follow-up once they encountered counter-fire. Poorly trained, indeed. The only real question is whether or not they equipped themselves, or if Putin is paying to put these groups in place.

These are not Russian military, though. Trust me.

Edit: Another thing is the apparent lack of respect for Afghan veterans. Those men would have commanded great respect from real Russian military, and would not have been treated as they were.

You do realize Ukraine already shut off the gas from Russia dont you? As far as american sponsored war your funny this has entirely been the EUs show. In case you havnt figured it out Obama is letting them handle it. They are the ones choosing to sign treaties with Ukraine they are guaranteeing loans they are helping with its security. I know RT wants you to believe its the big bad United States because having Europe stand up against Putin just doesnt make good press. The only thing the US did was condemn there actions of invading Ukraine and when they refused to leave set up sanctions. Because the US doesnt want to do business with Putin and his fascist regime this is suddenly Americas war. Funny how the US is damned if they do and damned if they dont. If we had dropped 50000 ground troops into Ukraine than it would be how we invaded to threaten Russia. When we set back andlet Europe handle it well somehow we still caused it. Sometimes i just wish we would show Russia what are military could do we could wipe out the Russian military in a month. Unfortunately i know it would go nuclear and no one would win.

At what point is a determination made where armed protestors (foreign protestors at that) are to be considered a foreign invasion force and met with force?

Just like nuclear MAD, there is also an economic MAD at works here.

EU stops Russian gas then it is in cold for 5 years till the new set up is in place. Russia stops EU gas, then it loses half its revenues. Both scenarios, EU and Russia go into depression and chain reactions follow.

US stops buying from China, then prices of goods at home rise, people cannot afford these goods, companies go bankrupt, massive unemployment, recession and depression of all sorts. China stops selling cheap goods to US, it gives up its earnings, big portion of Chinese labor force is out of work. Same chain reactions of recession and depression follow.

There has been talk about hitting the oil prices to go low to hurt Russia. A country like Iraq, needs oil prices at $93 per barrel to balance its budget, Saudi Arabia needs atleast $85. Even 10% correction in oil prices will hurt these countries also. Wonder what will happen if Iraq gets under Al Queda types. What a major headache that would be for the US.

But you are right, US/EU tend to draw the first blood. Wonder why do they want to poke their tired noses into other people's business. This nosy business is in their genetics and is being carried out for hundreds of years. About time this stops, for the better of the whole world.

That version of the speech is better in the original German form.

For those who want to continue to try and downplay Ukraine - just stop.

Ukraine is a sovereign nation with its own identity and history. Like Hitler and the Jewish people, Stalin shipped out the Tartars and moved in Russians. A contrived history of living there does not fly.

I will ask again since people seem to support Russian madness, at what point is Russian going to return German territory that Russia has occupied since the end of WWII?

www.reuters.com...

Iraq, which depends on crude oil exports for some 93 percent of government revenues, needed an average oil price of $106.1 per barrel in 2013 to balance its budget, up from $95 in 2011 because of rising expenditure, the IMF estimated last October.

The point is that if Ukraine becomes a new member of EU (’the new world order’) , it won’t remain a sovereign nation for long as they has to adopt the new world order laws that EU will impose on them. As long as Ukraine is in depth of EU economically , they pretty much have to accept everything that EU tells them to do. EU does not accept nationality and sovereign nations anymore, they want a world without borders with multiculturalism and a world council setting the rules for everything. They will soon establish a multitude of political correct monitoring organizations in Ukraine, watching every move and word that is said in the public. Thus Ukraine will rapidly become a victim of dictatorship and the people will no longer have a say in the destiny of their people and country.

A membership of EU (or/and Nato) will eventually mean that Ukraine have to become a multicultural piece of land like the other EU countries are. That also means that they have to accept that it is minorities from all over the world that are to be in command and decide the countries future. After a few decades, there won’t be anything left that is real Ukrainian culture and traditions anymore, as mosques and kebab , crime and conflicts and ‘no go zones’ will be the new Ukraine. If you have been to one of the EU countries lately you will get the picture. It is pretty much a continent who are committing suicide.

EU is pretty much as the sinking of Titanic. The musicians kept on playing music until the water reached up to their necks. Even then they were in denial.

I am not totally embracing a strong world dominant alliance between Russia and China, but as long as Obama’s America’s and EU are determined to destroy the white people , their nations and their culture, I would welcome this strong alliance just to save what is left.

Are you serious Xcathdra?

Russia moved borders for sure following WW2, indeed it took One third of German land and filled it with Slavs. Bit they won that land after the most viscous inhuman Nazi invasion in the modern era. Give back East Prussia?

The fact that there is a German nation today is largely a miracle. In many respects a total annihilation of Germany and it's people could have been expected in 1945, but the Soviets were unbelievably forgiving

Even the CNN ticker is on this -

All law enforcement agencies of Ukraine are participating in "anti-terrorist operation" in Slaviansk, Ukraine's Interior Minister says.

CNN

Avakov posted: "Anti-terrorist operation has started in Slaviansk. It is managed by Anti-terrorist Center of the Security Service of Ukraine. All the law enforcement agencies of the country are participating. God speed! "

He added later: "Tell all civilians to leave the center of town - don't leave your apartment, or go to the window. Separatists opened fire on the special forces without negotiations."
