Ukraine is worth fighting for,this is my worry.
This is akin to Canada falling to the old communist Warsaw pact, think that would be acceptable? think again.

Aside from nuclear weapons, it was acceptable for Cuba.

It should not be surprising to see resistance to the potential loss of a major trading partner, Russia has every strategic reason as the USA would if this were occurring in Mexico or Canada to involve itself in the conflict and I would bet my two cents it already has.We all know what happened in Georgia when NATO decided to park itself right next to Russia

Again, no. We likely won't see a major conflict over this. The violence we saw was just a situation getting out of hand with very old emotions tied to this struggle. I think cooler heads will prevail - that and non-existent funds in Ukrainian bank accounts. Ukraine does not want war, nor does Russia. Neither could afford it. Same with the US/EU...they are just as flat broke. Based on that regions VERY LONG history and political culture, this was inevitable one way or another.

Is the potential there for things to reignite? Yes. But again, Ukraine would be better off coming to a political resolution on their own. Sure, hold new elections (not that it would change much - but who knows, so why not?). Ukraine at the very least has the ability to show the world that it CAN (and in one way or another HAS to be) the door between Russia and the West. I think this is quite obvious to the political leaders/ opposition in Ukraine at the moment. They made their point already with the violence and not giving up Maiden Square...now they act on it by developing a ruling gov't that actually has the interest of the Ukrainian people in mind, not just the oligarchs. Time will tell, but I don't think doom porn helps much in figuring out this situation on here, ATS.

Looks like I was right.. protestors had to have the standing president out
before the close of the Olympics!

Let's hop i am wrong about the tanks rolling into Ukraine.

the article says it is from January 27th 2014. We are coming close to the end of February.

Secondly, if this report is accurate and it gets out to the masses, do we think Russia is going to just be welcomed in with open arms? If anything it will complicate matters to the point of possible intervention by the west.

That's the insinuation in the article... one of the other threads with Ukraine is posting info that Russian forces have started towards Sevastopol. According to the article it is saying Sevastopol has declared independence from Ukraine, Russia has recalled its ambassador, and Russian forces are either in position or have entered the city.

Some western countries are issuing warnings to Russia about involvement. I have not seen anything on live tv, and the sources reporting are mainly Ukrainian.

Confusing and weird comes to mind.

Unfortunately you proved me wrong. I guess they DO want a fight. It is odd that the article is dated January 26th. But that may just mean things are building up that much faster? There are 2 ways out of this, diplomacy and violence...I only see them preparing for more violence at this point. it does not have to go down like this though.

For our sakes..I think it best if they stay at grabbing Crimea!
I don't think Western Europe will tolerate a full take over of all of Ukraine.

I said a few threads or posts ago that it was a bad idea for Ukraine to split as it would
end up like West and East Germany during the cold war.

Now I think that is the best outcome given the present circumstances.

Seriously... The Russian army is on the move.. whether they are wearing insignia or not.

Very serious situation developing.

Were I Putin; I would take the Western funding of the protestors as a Declaration of War. Initially I was on the side of the protestors, however upon deeper investigation I have found that the entire "insurrection" was funded and prodded along by Western Groups, one of which is a pet of George Soros.

Putin has every right to be pissed off and every right in bring the Russian Army into the Ukraine. IMO the USA better keep the heck out of this fight as we have already caused enough trouble and should WW3 breakout the USA would be at fault.

Ukraine is a sovereign nation so Russia has no grounds to be pissed at the west.

Secondly, fell free to link us to your sources of where the west has funded any of what's going on right now in Ukraine.

Third, if Russia wants to go down this road, and you guys support it, then you are no better than the "westerners" you so loudly bang on for performing the same actions.

The Ukraine is an ally of Russia. It's President was run off by protestors. This gives the Russians the authority to back their ally regardless of what the people want.

You want links to the Western support of the Protestors go do some research. I am long tired of providing links to the folks on this site that are to lazy to do their own research. I did the research and that is good enough for me.

You need to do some more checking before making claims.

The US / UK signed agreements with Ukraine when the Soviet Union collapsed to guarantee their sovereignty / territorial integrity..

As for the rest - typical.

Putin will do what he wants.

He must be laughing at the cowards in DC.

How is his Community Organizer experience working out for him now?
