Acheological sites are needed for education. With the tombs, we still are not sure how they were built, and provide clues to how society evolved.

We know what happened with a sunk ship.

Most tombs and sites are one of a kind. Sunken war ships are not.

Not always true.

One example is HMAS Sydney, which disappeared after a battle with a German ship, the Kormoran.

No one really knew what happened until the wreck was found.

Also, if HMAS Perth was sunk in Australian waters, or even international waters, this thread and conversation would be moot, as it would be protected and declared a war memorial, just like the hundreds of other ships like it.

So once we collect information to allow us to figure out how they were built then we destroy them, got it.
