DISCLAIMER
I used ats search for similar threads I found some results but a lot of threads are a few years old. So apologies if I'm beating a dead horse MODS delete/move where applicable.

I've started this thread because I was introduced to the zeitgeist film last night by a friend. Now being on ats for over 3 years you would of thought I would of heard about this movie. Truth is I've never dived deep into some of the things they talk about and initially my mind was blown away and I only watch the first two parts!

I'm not here to discuss the things the movie was talking about I know one topic was 9/11. Obviously there are tonnes of threads about that so I'm not here to discuss what was in the movie

What I wanted to ask, if anyone has seen it how creditable is the movie. Is it full of random coincides that just happen to link up? I'm a non believer of god or spirits etc just a normal guy who works in a supermarket.

Thanks for your time ats again sorry I know this has been covered before. Also I'm not here for stars and flags

I don't usually let wikipedia do the talking for me, but the "critical reactions" section of this article sums it all up nicely:

Not meaning to give a non-answer, but there are mega detailed websites about this film and its multiple versions. I really think it's best to find that content and make your own thoughts on it.

I'd also highly recommend learning a little about ancient translations and meanings if you have the time. Not just translations of the bible, but translations of things like Greek, Roman, and Egyptian texts and Gods. The topics covered are absolutely massive, and that probably explains why so many mistakes are made by amateur and professional researchers alike.

With Zeitgeist, however, I don't believe the mistakes made were 'mistakes' at all, I believe the makers have been a little bit too Michael Moore with their logic in many places to make a more impacting documentary.

Hey Pinke thanks for replying
I know what you mean about getting some understanding about the topics spoken about so I actually agree with you and honestly I don't have much knowledge about what is spoken about which is half the reason why I posted this thread

The film blew my mind but something was telling me that this cannot be true. So I was really seeing what the ats community thought and to see if anyone could provide extra info

Thanks for the reply

I heard of it before but never saw it, ill try to check it latter but according to what the wiki says about it my hopes are low

---------

From wiki critical reaction

The film is an interesting object lesson on how conspiracy theories get to be so popular.... It's a driven, if uneven, piece of propaganda, a marvel of tight editing and fuzzy thinking. Its on-camera sources are mostly conspiracy theorists, co-mingled with selective eyewitness accounts, drawn from archival footage and often taken out of context. It derides the media as a pawn of the International Bankers, but produces media reports for credibility when convenient. The film ignores expert opinion, except the handful of experts who agree with it. And yet, it's compelling. It shamelessly ploughs forward, connecting dots with an earnest certainty that makes you want to give it an A for effort

Zeitgeist is worthwhile if you keep a very open mind. Different people will draw different conclusions ... over different periods of time.

Always amazing how quick the detractors are to have a first say... Zeitgeist is the stuff of ATS minus aliens.
Don't fall into a trap that this is not worth watching because of the films being "propaganda", "utopianist", "socialist", "anti-semetic" or whatever.

I watched it years ago, enjoyed it, and it challenged my critical thought processes regarding the world view I grew up with. I believe all "truth" has a subjective underpinning, and it is unavoidable, given the subject matter of the Zeitgeist movies, that an objective truth can't be promulgated.

As to criticisms of the Zeitgeist being intentional propaganda... - Too what end??? There definitely is not much of a money incentive, given the huge amount of effort that has gone into the production of the film series...

Nobody can say that the current systems that run our global society has been perfected. As the movies overly emotionally displays - our world is fundamentally corrupted. There is much more propaganda in the world trying to persuade us that everything is normal, global warming doesn't exist, capitalism is the only solution (even though the banks are allowed to benefit from socialist state welfare), that pyramidal hierarchical structures are the natural order of things (even though the spread of the internet demonstrates the power of human organisational structures emulating nature's rhizome structure - peer-to-peer, mycelium, decentralization) etc.,etc.

We need alternatives to the status quo, like humanity never needed a new path before. The only way a viable solution will be found is by large numbers of alternative models being laid out on the table. And I think that is where the value of Zeitgeist lies - It may not have everything right, but I feel it is an honest attempt at searching for better world, instead of languishing in the fake culture of pop.

Why should Zeitgeist endure more criticism than [insert shallow teen sex comedy here]? What is more harmful to humanity anyway?

Watch the movies, research issues you don't feel comfortable with, and form your own opinion. Don't stop. Research more. Gaia demands it from you.

Dialogue from The Matrix:

Neo: It's an honor to meet you.
Morpheus: No, the honor is mine. Please, come. Sit. I imagine that right now you're feeling a bit like Alice, tumbling down the rabbit hole, hm?
Neo: You could say that.
Morpheus: I can see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he is expecting to wake up. Ironically, this is not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo?
Neo: No.
Morpheus: Why not?
Neo: Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.
Morpheus: I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain. But you feel it. You've felt it your entire life. That there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is but it's there, like a splinter in your mind driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?
Neo: The Matrix?
Morpheus: Do you want to know what it is? The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us, even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into bondage, born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind. Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.

Unfortunately the nature of the real matrix can not be reveled through one perspective only, so carry on!!

For a more academical look at the effects of 9/11, I recommend Adam Curtis's "Power of Nightmares"... Actually watch all his documentaries... (A recent one I really enjoyed was "All watched over by machines of loving grace") For in depth analysis of the roots to our present financial system, look at Bill Still's "Secret of Oz", or "Money Masters"...

No, not directly. What is does is a false establishment of what "normalcy" is, which I think is much worse. At least Zeitgeist offers an opinion. You are free to form your own, and the more perspectives you incorporate into your worldview, the more complete it is.

I heard of it before but never saw it

Then you can not have an opinion...

Hey padawan, haven't read all your replies yet just wanted to say thanks. I agree about the open mind thing I won't go into detail but I was with two friends last night, one friend introduced me to it because he use to laugh at me when I spoke about conspiracies etc

He watched the zeitgeist a little while ago and he actually apologised for laughing at me. My other friend who's house we were round doesn't really pay attention to what I say (not in a horrible way) but we got past the whole god thing at the start of the film then it went onto 9/11 etc. but when me and my friend were explaining about wtc 7 etc he started to open his mind a bit and was very interested. It was late and we were two thirds through the film and he told us to stop it so we can watch it tomorrow ( today) so that his fiancé can watch it (or be forced to watch it lol)

Anyway thanks again I'll read your replies now lol

This is what I plan to do, I've read a lot of things in ats and I always find it hard to understand a lot of it. After watching the film it kind of straightened things out for me and it almost made me see things clearer. But still being honest my knowledge of everything that was spoken about is very limited. This was one of the reasons why I chose to create the thread hoping other users who have seen this film could share their views and I could go researching myself

Edit: also I created the thread for other users to read. I appreciate that the video I watched was a good few years old. The search results I found on ats I found difficult to find a place to start talking about what I watched last night. So if anyone else watches it recently they can ats search and hopefully find my thread

Anyways take care all keep the replies and opinions coming. Anything that may help me check stuff up please tell I'm welcome to the help and advice

The wikipedia link, explains what zeitgeist actually is. It doesn't include an explanation of the film in the OP.

I've seen the movie years ago. The connections they make are not really trustworthy, but the arguments given, aren't bs either.
The truth will probably be somewhere in the middle.

The banking system though... What can I say, we've all seen what's happening the last few years.

It's also a little over the top, but maybe they did that to attract more public.

My 2 cents
