LONDON — A German magazine lifted the lid on the operations of the National Security Agency’s hacking unit Sunday, reporting that American spies intercept computer deliveries, exploit hardware vulnerabilities, and even hijack Microsoft’s internal reporting system to spy on their targets.

How low can they go the NSA. I wonder how much this cost us taxpayers!
Microsoft is one of several U.S. firms that have demanded more transparency from the NSA — and worked to bolster their security — in the wake of the revelations of former intelligence worker Edward Snowden, whose disclosures have ignited an international debate over privacy and surveillance.

I did a search came up empty ,please remove if already posted.

I already posted but had some strange blipping on and off of my computer this morning when I got onto ATS. I woke up at around 4:30 and couldn't go back to sleep without reading a bit. It wasn't stopping on it's own so had to click a few things to take it out of that mode. Knowing about the NSA I thought of them. It wasn't a computer thing nor internet connection - it was as if someone was in the middle of something and I intervened at the wrong time (best way to describe). I had other things open so clicked into them and it wasn't happening but when went back onto ATS it continued.

Maybe at those quiet hours ATS does some work but I can't imagine it would cause what I saw. Another thing that came to mind - hacking. I keep waiting for some sort of cyberterrorism and am not sure how it would affect a site like this but I can't shake the feeling this was human caused.

I'm sure they check sites like this and then attempt to get people's identities if they suspect something. They can take an easier route and just ask or get a suppeana but why do that if they have the ability to do it the quick and dirty way. Who knows - I have nothing to hide. I'm concerned about being misunderstood though (being flagged for how I word something).

Probably another strong point in the case for going shopping locally for hardware, case, etc, & building your own computer. you may still be subject to OS/firmware exploits, but at least no one will be intercepting your box in transit to load it full of spyware.

I've always said, "Build your own computer & get the box you want", & now I'll have to add, "Why make it easier for the NSA to snoop?"

G,day mate. sounds pretty off. but these kinds of actions are to be expected from those that seek to control and subvert ones freedoms. I smiled at the way you blokes have labelled the CIA as Criminals In Action.
may i suggest NSA
Not Socially Acceptable
National Socialists of America
or maybe
Nefarious Scumbags Anonymous
hope this brings a smile to your dial
Point of interest. I enjoyed a tv show called Babylon 5. It would appear that a lot of what is happening to you blokes re govt control is very similar to what earth force did in that show. maybe that show was a warning or maybe i need to go to bed it is now 0541hrs local.
