Bah Humbug

Christmas is a consumer driven scam, and I'm not playing. In fact, if I hadn't had to go to the store for more wine I would have managed to go all of Christmas Eve with having to speak to another human being. It was so close.

So this is thread is for all you out there who have no use for Christmas. Just think of all the stuff we could have gotten done if everyone was still at work like normal. All the productivity sacrificed for a fat guy in a red suit commiting thousands of B&Es.

So heathens, mal-contents, psychopaths, workaholics, non-Christians.... What did you do with your day?

I ate a giant steak and played Bioshock.

I used to see it your way, I thought what was this once a few days kindness crap....

After a bit I realized it never gets to niceness all the time without some...small dedicated time to push some niceness...it's the worlds right to free speech.

Commercialism at the holidays changes when the cultural norm makes it irrelevant., which equates to niceness in a larger degree overall. Overall doesn't always look as good as it becomes exponentially.

I applause your humbug and raise you a Merry season, and all the best in the future!

Cheers!

I say take this time to lay around and drink wine while playing Bioshock. After all you may or may not be able to enjoy this extra free time if not for Christmas, no? No-ones judging what you do with this free time, at least no-one should be. *Clink* Merry Christmas, oh and make sure to play both endings.

No drinking yet, didn't have time-- between a whole round of Diablo II Lord of Destruction expando for old time's sake, and a splice... started last Friday PM. Finished D2E an hour ago; felt real good taking that shower to rinse the two inch coating of caked-on demon blood off my Ancient Armor.

For both endings---
I finished splicing all three takes together of my favorite Who number ("Won't get.." because it's in F%'n A Wookie) just so I could play along the bass line in my Sony buds: the Rainbow, Goodnight Toronto AND The Concert for NYC at the same time.

I SONAR'ed in the embellishment voids /blanks from each individual effort with already existing track, and Johnny Twinkle was all but scrubbed out so there was no toe-stepping-onnage. The BNX was set up for a pre-Selmer store full of SVT's half a minute before turning into a six kllowatt chorus line of arc welders: quite ugly really. There can be no excess of information when it comes to audible carnage. If there was any wonder about it Kenny and Keith were as compatible a perc duet as Liz Taylor and Richard Burton.

Good practice toon although when you feel like tearing the head off a reindeer or two. ARRRgh. Blast pathos, arpeggios like (dare I?) The Immigrant Song, and a couple or three chords just to infuse MEAT. The ending made me cry I can't take it Brew-Hoo.

Next may be that first solo platter Bruford tune where Stewart grew all his hair back in 1:20 or less... like the described turtle out of the shell. It's so pretty, then it gets pretty loud too.
Such an old lightweight now... unabashed bawling

May the time off pass slowly and happily for us all. And always wanted to say nice string o' Poils.

Christmas is about family and from the sound of it you are without loved ones. I am sorry life has dealt you this hand.

Sometimes in life you really do reap what you sow. You can have all the monetary wealth in the world and if you have no one to share it with it is a total loss.

Oh, the good old "Christmas is evil and makes us spend our money (you bastards!)" post.

Christmas is about family. People without family tend to demonize Christmas as a "scam" by big finance to "make us" buy presents and spend money.

I don´t want to ruin your solitude, but Christmas is only a scam for the lonely and bitter. For the rest of humanity it´s awesome. Actually scratch lonely, and leave bitter.

Enjoy!

I think it is a damn shame that people are tainting the Winter Solstice tradition by associating it with such cheap and immoral materialism.

I'd like to wish the 8 year old Chinese children who slaved to make all the toys. Without you Christmas would be nothing.

I have family to share it with but if I'm being honest I sort of feel this humbug way. I just want to skip it, not be involved. I have to get into though for the sake of my family. So you just play along.

Tomorrow morning I will give my kids a bunch of stuff they probably don't really want and shall receive the same in return. Stuff I don't want or need. That part is really stupid.

The best day for me is Boxing Day , when it's over with. There's a bit of a break and normalcy for a week until New Year's Eve is over with.

Merry Christmas

Christmas is the worst holiday ever.

As I pointed out to someone else recently, its great for those with their own transport, and family. Not so great for those who don't.

There is no bus or train service in operation on Christmas day. I don't own a car because they took my license away when I started going blind. All my family is dead. The stores are closed, the cinemas are closed, only 2 pubs in the local area are open, and then only for a few hours. Taxi's charge quadruple rates on Christmas day...

The only thing I can do, is sit and stare at 4 walls for 24hrs.

Gods, I hate Christmas more than any other holiday. It's the only holiday when public transport stops. All other holidays, I usually get on a bus and head out for a walk in the countryside. Or get on a bus and head over to friendds. None of my friends live locally.

Such crap. I've spent countless Christmas's alone, several as a child. My fault right?

I chose to avoid the holiday, which now of course becomes my choice. I don't care for Christmas not because its a consumer driven holiday (which it is) I don't care for it because it always makes me sad along with countless others who experience similar difficult situations regarding family.

Did you get coal in your stocking.?

ho ho ho

I spent the month making my families presents, taught my four year old great granddaughter how to make gifts this year, it was the most gratifying holiday experience I ever had, watching her joyfully make gifts for her mom and grandma, teaching her it is more blessed to give than to receive.

Yes there are the negatives, but the positives exist.

Merry and happy, peace on earth, goodwill to all

I really feel bad for those alone on Christmas, maybe invite people with less to your home, or volunteer at homeless shelter or soup kitchen.

My first Christmas alone was in Tacoma Washington, my husband was stationed there, getting ready to leave for Vietnam, my first child was three months old, we had nothing.

On Christmas eve he came home with a tree, still with the tree lot stand on it, walked home with it, hummm, wonder how he obtained that.

no ornaments so I made paper ones like we used to make at school, I was only seventeen.

later he came home with a ham and cookies under his coat, the landlady gave a pillowcase and tin of cookies.

I spent Xmas Eve raking leaves, picked a couple buckets of oranges from the orange tree, replaced the bulb in my 8 yr old big screen TV, and grilled steaks for my two son's arrival last night.

This morning i cooked breakfast for everyone and am now getting ready for work, Noon to 8pm, not retail.

Also, didn't buy a single gift nor did i get one, which is fine. Except my oldest son did get me a gag gift..lol. Now that everyone is grown and out of the house, i enjoy the being together more than anything else.
