BURLINGTON, Vt. - Sources tell WCAX News the Vermont Air National Guard base has been picked to host the F-35 fighter jet.
In a long-anticipated decision the Air Force is expected to announce this afternoon the next-generation fighter jet will be based out of the South Burlington air base.

Vermont may be a little state, but the Green Mountain Boys have a long and proud history dating back to the American Revolution. The 158th Fighter Wing has demonstrated itself to be one of the finest fighter wings among the entire Air Force, to include active duty. I am proud to have been a part of this unit, and Vermont will benefit from the continued mission of the Vermont Air National Guard through the 21st century and beyond. Our block 30 F-16Cs are tired old birds, and will be in dire need of replacement by the time the F-35 gets off the assembly line in 2020 or so.
