A statewide recount of the presidential vote appears inevitable after a pair of third-party candidates said they have collected enough money to pay for it.

The recount would be conducted after the election results are certified in early December.

Libertarian Michael Badnarik and the Green Party's David Cobb said on Monday they raised more than $150,000 in four days, mostly in small contributions.

Ohio law requires payment of $10 per precinct for a recount, or $113,600 statewide.

Badnarik and Cobb said they aren't trying to overturn President Bush's 136,000-vote victory in Ohio, but just want to ensure that all votes were counted properly in the face of concerns about Election Day irregularities.

Badnarik is back baby. While I am not sure that anything will change....due to the nature of our system, I am always glad to see Badnarik's or Cobb's name in the news. Great ad. 2008 here we come!

I guess Bush will gain some more votes. Same thing happened in 2000 in Fla. What I want to know is why Bednarik and Cobb doing this, surely they are not doing this to help their cause, I wonder if maybe the DNC is funding this and are using them to keep their name out of it. the 2004 election is a direct result of the 2000 election fiasco. They don't want to ruin any chance they have for the 2006 mid-term elections.

I can't wait... !!!

I think it would be hilarious if after all the votes are counted that President Bush actually won Ohio by a lot more votes than what was already projected...

Would any of you step up and say you were wrong.. or just keep crying foul....

The sad part is that out of all the states, Ohio has always had the reputation of doing things the right way. I amuses me to think that just because Bush won, some people think that the good people of Ohio forgot how to count votes.

It doesn't matter. It won't change anything. As long as Amerika uses touch-screen machines with no paper trails, the vote counts will be manipulated.

Go to www.blackboxvoting.org to learn all about it.

More stupid crap here also. What makes anyone think there can be a recount. There is nothing to recount. There is no paper trail.
The question here young'ins should be why these boy's raised some 150,000$
to pay for this re-count? When Kerry is sitting on 50 million in campaign funds and refuses to challenge.

Remember S+B, Kerry will never challenge, he was there to loose, sleepers

Yours, and others, allegations are 'defuncto'. Why? Because as mentioned by Polar Bear, lovely Mr. Kerry and 97% of his campaign staff are refusing to challenge what you and others have been asserting. Why? Let's cross off one reason, k? It's definitely not because he is trying to not 'divide' the nation no more than what it is. IMHO, it's because he knows, as most of you know, the vote numbers, even from a recount, will not be satisfactory enough to remotely give Mr. Kerry an appointment...

So, as par, and as has been par in 7 out of the last 10 presidential elections, when the Republican Party gets the nomination, the liberals and Democrat's cry "manipulation," "stolen," and/or "fraudulent" election! Carry on... will enjoy reading more of the incessant whining and crying that is and will undoubtedly continue to take place. Your right on one account: "It really doesn't matter," does it?

A few obvious questions come to mind.

1. Had Ohio fallen the other way would Kerry have definitely won?

2. If so, what happens if by some fluke the recount shows that Kerry won, does the fact that he has conceded negate the count?

Kano, to be honest, if Ohio went to Kerry, you can bet your house that we republicans would be challeging the vote in Pennsylvania. Kerry won PA, by less votes than he lost to Bush in Ohio by. The reason why Republicans did not voice their concern about the vote in philly was because we won.

Let's see.. Ohio's Republican Secretary of State assures BushCo. that he will deliver his state, the strong possibility voter rolls in heavily Democratic areas were purged, many of those minorities were hassled beyond belief (like.. your precinct has been moved, or you'll get arrested for trying to vote if you havn't paid your child support..), spoiled ballots, provisional ballots, etc. etc.

Florida is even more suspicious. In Fla.'s case, it seems the vote tabulations were manipulated through the software. For example, in a precinct with 85% registered Democrat, Bush got the majority of the votes? There's no way. And that was a very common phenomenon in that state.

In states where touch-screen machines were used, as well as the older devices, the exit poll data was very wickity wack. The exit polls matched (within 1%) votes cast. Where the touch-screens were used, the exit polls were way out of wack. There's a good reason for this. The totals were manipulated through the software.

Bush does not have the support that is claimed. That's wishful thinking. If the mainstream media would get off its a$$ and do its job in covering this thing, the truth would come out. They won't, though. They largely cannot or will not bite the hand that feeds it.

Here are some articles on this..

Greg Palast and Farhad Manjoo: Presidential Debate
Salon.com

Tuesday 16 November 2004

Reporter Greg Palast and Salon's Farhad Manjoo debate the election results in Ohio.
Greg Palast: Sean Hannity called me a putz. Oh, my! And soft-porn-site scribe Frank Salvato put me in with the "black helicopter" conspiracy league. Golly!

I can live with that. But when Salon disses my report of vote suppression in Ohio ("Was the Election Stolen?" by Farhad Manjoo), I have to respond. Manjoo went after my article, "Kerry Won," the latest in my series of investigations of our manipulated election system first published in America by ... Salon: "Florida's Flawed 'Voter-Cleansing' Program."

Now, the facts. Most voters in Ohio cast their ballots for John Kerry, which should, in accordance with Mrs. Gordon's civics lessons from sixth grade, have given Kerry the Electoral College majority and the White House. Trouble is, those votes won't be counted.

Unexplained Exit Poll Discrepancy
(a report by Steven F. Freeman, PhD, Univ. of Pennsylvania)

George Knapp, Investigative Reporter
Investigation into Trashed Voter Registrations

(Oct. 13) -- Federal, state, and local officials are gathering information about allegations of voter registration fraud that were first raised Channel 8 Eyewitness News.

An employee of a private voter registration firm alleges that his bosses trashed registration forms filled out by Democratic voters because they only wanted to sign up Republican voters.

The allegations have set off a political firestorm stretching from Las Vegas to Washington D.C., and beyond.

Despite mainstream media attempts to kill the story, talk radio and the Internet are abuzz with suggestions that John Kerry was elected president on Nov. 2 but Republican election officials made it difficult for millions of Democrats to vote while employees of four secretive, GOP-bankrolled corporations rigged electronic voting machines and then hacked central tabulating computers to steal the election for George W. Bush.

The Bush administration's "fix" of the 2000 election debacle (the Help America Vote Act) made crooked elections considerably easier, by foisting paperless electronic voting on states before the bugs had been worked out or meaningful safeguards could be installed.

Crying foul this time around isn't just the province of whiny Democrats. Consider that The Wall Street Journal recently revealed that "Verified Voting, a group formed by a Stanford University professor to assess electronic voting, has collected 31,000 reports of election fraud and other problems."

University of Pennsylvania researcher Dr. Steven Freeman, in his November 2004 paper "The Unexplained Exit Poll Discrepancy," says that the odds that the discrepancies between predicted [exit poll] results and actual vote counts in Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania could have been due to chance or random error are 250 million to 1. "Systematic fraud or mistabulation is a premature conclusion," writes Freeman, "but the election's unexplained exit poll discrepancies make it an unavoidable hypothesis, one that is the responsibility of the media, academia, polling agencies, and the public to investigate."

As for John kerry conceding so quickly, I have no comment. Although, I voted for him (in protest against Bush), I'm not gonna waste my time championing him. Also, the largely pro-Bush press would have crucified him if he had made challenges.

ECK, you again use suspect links for your proof. Man, your hatred for Bush just keeps going doesn't it. The reason Kerry did not challenge the vote is because he does know the truth. He lost. It's sad that you base your hopes on what someone said. Heck, the Democratic SOS for Pennslyvannia promised to deliver PA for Kerry. Does that mean that he cheated to get it done? debateable, but really has no bearing on the election.

Republicans also said that they were going to deliver Maryland for Bush, but it didn't happen. Any loyal Republican or Democrat will say that they are going to deliver their state for their canindate. This happens even in the local elections.

60 million Americans voted for Bush, no matter how you spin it, He won.

The DNC isn't funding this. If you decided to read the article versus using your own propaganda, you would have seen they raised the money themselves. The point is two-fold: Public Relations, and showing people that their vote accounts, every single one.

But I doubt anything will change, our system is too corrupt as it stands.

EDIT: I just noticed something, jrsdls, does your dislike of Kerry come from that message going around that Kerry was going to ban the Bible?

Jamuhn, I did read the article, and while they claim that this is to make sure that they are showing the every vote counts, then why choose Ohio if it's not politically motivated or funded by the DNC. Why not choose a state like Pennslyvannia where the election is closer?

If all they want is Public Relations, would they not get this from going to a state like NY? Face it, Cobb and Bednarik, are doing this for the Democrats who don't want their finger-prints on this waste of time.

As far as I know, nobody in Ohio was disenfranchised, never saw anyone say that, I know the provisional ballots are being counted, so why have a recount?

There are a lot of voting irregularities coming out of Ohio and seeing as it is the main battleground state of this election, versus Florida, the state is appropriate. Face it, anyone not inline with your views must be a liberal. That makes me sick.

Not so mr. Christian. I happen to work with several liberaterians, Heck, I've even had Bednarik in my small little office and had the oppurtunity to talk with him one on one. One of my office mates was one of the big-whigs in the Liberterian party here in Maryland. He is not liberal (my office mate). I don't know you, so I can't judge where you are liberal or not. You don't know me, yet you assume that I am an ultra conservative.

Why not Pennsylvannia?

Pennsylvania race for President
9425 of 9425 precincts - 100 percent
x- John F. Kerry Dem 2,885,773 - 51 percent
George W. Bush (i) Rep 2,756,904 - 49 percent
Michael Badnarik Lib 20,833 - 0 percent
Michael Peroutka CST 6,466 - 0 percent
David Cobb Grn 6,236 - 0 percent

difference of 128869 - 21 Electorial Votes

Ohio race for President
11477 of 11477 precincts - 100 percent
x- George W. Bush (i) Rep 2,796,147 - 51 percent
John F. Kerry Dem 2,659,664 - 49 percent
Michael Badnarik NP 14,331 - 0 percent
Michael Peroutka NP 11,614 - 0 percent

difference of 136483 - 20 Electorial Votes

Cobb was not even on the ballot in Ohio, why should he challenge the vote there. the big difference is that Bush won Ohio and Kerry won PA. Tell the truth that this is a big attempt by the Democrats to try to throw the election to Kerry. The Sad part is that you can't even acknowledge this fact.

I'm glad to see a man familiar with the Libertarian party. I don't think you are ultraconservative, but I said what I did because you are from WV. I do not think that this is a ploy by the Democratic Party. If Kerry was truly destined to lose, then it's a good way to shake up the system. I'm sure that Badnarik and Cobb won't even acknowledge that Bush is going to lose after this recount.

Actually, I am in Maryland. I have visited the governments underground bunker in Berkley Springs several times and after being abused a lot by the Dems on this site, I decided that i needed to be in that bunker. LOL. It just smacks of political move by the Democrats. It might not be, but it smells awful funny.
