This brings up another idea. How about voting on every major issue for all Americans? Be it a black box in the home or via internet. The internet has taken over every other way of communication, why not this?

Why couldn't every American have an internet ID. One used for voting on crucial issues? If it comes down to voting for our every day rights then yes, maybe internet access should be a right. How much does it cost to run the polls? Get the votes out to where they should be. Don't own a computer? Then use your ID at the local library or until technology gets everyone connected, at the polls. But the point is, that every one has an internet ID to be entered when it is time to vote. This doesn't have to be knowingly connected to the voter. How about some encrypted code? This can be all figured out, I am certain.

You know what? That's a great idea! The only problem I see is the EnEssEhh could be the "man in the middle." You would have to ensure that the voting system was entirely encripted with the best encription available and point to point with no "man in the middle!"

Well this is where we need our greatest technological minds. Come on ATS, we have the greatest and the best minds here. What say you?

If this is what Americans wanted we, collectively speaking, we would have it already.

The majority of Americans are too easily lead and freely buy into the lies and propaganda of what ever faction they choose to side with.

This leaves a small minority who attempt to establish an honest, corruption free change.
These few don't stand a chance against the millions of dollars and greedy selfishness of the estabishment (existing political system).

Attempt a change and be labeled an anarcist, communist, socialist, teabagger, nutjob, lunatic and so on.
And, as those before you, live your days on this planet in frustration and futile endeavour.

As for me,
I choose my own quite revolution. I don't participate in the modern American world of reality TV, Sports, Religion, consumerism.

I don't feed the system any more than is necassary to keep me out of jail.

I feel happy and have found liberty.

I believe Americans want something like this but are being told and conditioned that it can't and won't exist and that it's bad which makes it taboo, making them leave it alone and ignore it. I think it's a wonderful idea. I believe that it would be criticized and denounced harshly by our standing parties though, neither likes change that threatens their power.

And while we are at it, lets place Bohner and Reed in a cockfight ring and let them fight it to the death. I personally want to have none of this.

I would agree to this only if we can throw the winner of the fight into jail for the rest of his life. Can we see a death match between Pelosi and Bachmann as well? Eh, that wouldn't be fair as Nancy is to old. Maybe Wasserman-Schultz?

A noble effort!

Here's how I see it going. . . . .

The grass root support swells. Rallies and meetings start increasing all over the country.

Then politicians start coming out and saying that, "In their heart, they've always been a democrian"

Then a few Democrian senators get blamed for a tornado relief bill that didn't include clauses for "Sharknados"

Democrians get made fun of on John Stewarts show.

Angry MSM outlets start a smear campaign against democrians.

Republican and democrat congressmen start attacking the nut-weasels in the democrian party.

(where have I heard this all before. . . . . ?)

Then soon you will have the Republicrats, then right back to the same old same old. Great idea if were to work though. As long as there are government, there will always be bickering and arguments. We just need the ones that bicker with the intent of doing so with Americans' best interests in mind. I do agree I don't see that happening with the two sides now.

how in the -enter supernatural deity and/or place of afterlife here- do you still believe politicians/government/state can ameliorate you? Their very existence is the problem.
if you are serious about wanting "hope and change", and world peace, etc...
we as a society need to scrap government (not all at once, but gradually let free market competition flow into the State monopolies)
the heart of the matter is that the State is inherently immune from accountability.
All of us in America are committing crimes EVERYDAY (as far as the police/justice system is concerned), but it's okay for government (politicians, police, judicial officials and the ever expanding roll of government employees) to-
-Murder:
now in the millions- but when Hitler and the Nazi regime did it...awwww HELL NAWWW! *rolling eyes*
-Armed Robbery:
i.e. TAXATION, TAXATION, and oh yeah, MORE TAXATION; BS legal fines primarily from the war on drugs; the prison and military industrial complexes, etc.
-Kidnapping
-Torture:
ahem Guantanamo...I mean....Gezundheit!
-Animal abuse/murder:
PETA?! wtf? you lose your minds if someone gives a rat in a subway station a dirty look,
but police are slaughtering civilians' pets left and right- JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN.
AND YET ALL WE GET FROM YOUR JACKASSES IS...
*insert Jeopardy theme song here*
....
....
....
nothing but the sweet symphony of crickets.
(let me guess, the government runs your freakshow too?!)

do I even need to go on?

I don't know if was a concious choice or not but you used different words to say the same thing I said in the first part of my post.

Until you can fix THIS and make sure everyone who votes KNOWS what/who they are voting for and not just "incumbant" or "party" or whatever momma told me too etc etc ad nauseum. A new party won't do anymore than any other non rep-dem party has done in the past.

I agree with you a hundred percent though we NEED to give everyone a choice that isn't the status quo and party line. We need to cut back the govt chaff and bring our country back to sanity. Being what it is though personally I think it is too little too late. We're all going to fall down the rabbit hole soon'ish and I really don't see a way to stop it anymore.

Whenever anyone gripes about things going on in our country today to me I ALWAYS ask first thing "Do you vote?" if they quibble or say no I tell em flat out "Then what you say means bleep all to me cause YOU are part of the problem!" Just like all the SMART people getting out of jury duty then bitching cause our "justice system" sucks.

If people don't VOTE, and do our civic duty as citizens of this once great country instead of armchair quarterbacking and lip service (It's ok really the govt will fix/handle it and make things right :rolls eyes:.), nothing will change, even though I think things are to the point our votes really mean diddly squat cause it's all rigged to say whatever TPTB want it too, all they need is a person to vote and they take it from there heh.

Ok I'll end here or I'll go off topic and into my favorite rants which I've already done here 8 years ago I think lol

Good luck with that.

We currently have a situation where most Democrat supporters think their elected members are too far to the right and most Republican supporters think their elected members are not to the right far enough.

I would love to move more to the middle, since currently our government is right of center as it is.

But when each person running for office is free to choose their stances, you can't blame the entire party. This is the beauty in it.

It's a great idea and I believe most Americans are actually already a little bit of both: conservative on some issues and liberal on others - the verbs of those terms *not* the nouns/parties/political affiliations.

Sadly, with that said it will never work.

For one simple reason - MONEY.

Until we change the system and get the corporate/PAC/special interests and all of their MONEY out of the process, the process itself is screwed from the get-go.

Which is *exactly* the way they want it...

Trying to organize an effective grass-roots campaign against that mountain of cash is an exercise in futility.

The only "independent" that even came close on the national stage was Ross Perot.

Why? He had his own MONEY! [need a face-palm emoticon here]

Until we get the money out of politics we are doomed to more & more of the same. And it wouldn't be difficult to devise a very good system along those lines. Then we would actually be voting on candidates based solely on their *ideas* and actions supporting same (if applicable).

Imagine that?

But what the hell - sign me up anyway...

Ok this party needs a logo. Any suggestions? The olive branch seems to have significance. Any way to incorporate this with a hand or something else? I can almost see this already. Or has it been done? Deja vue!

I've agonized for a good while over saying this; but I'm afraid I must.

Direct democracy is a rookie mistake, and I'm afraid I cannot support it.

I commend to you James Madison, in Federalist No. 10.

Up to now I've leaned Libertarian anyway. If I'm going to go along with splintering the vote, I'm afraid I have to at least remain true to the principles....

Couldn't find the emoticon, this was the closest I could find.

On topic I would be concerned about mass voting on topics simply because people always vote themselves the money. How would we get around that?

Also the logo, Olive leaf? Hmm... seems a little... I'm not sure.
Let's look some more.

The dreaded "Tyranny of the Majority"...

Some combination of direct democracy/plebiscite and a representative democracy would be workable and maybe preferable. It sticks in a lot of peoples craws that Congress gets to vote on things that directly affect them in their role as legislators. Having those items handled via DD is not a bad idea. It has the added value of totally removing the temptation for them to vote their own interests ahead of the nations.

You know what they say about that slippery slope...
