The ability to drive the car remotely is totally feasible. It only requires a backdoor into the car computer/controller.
You have to assume US intelligence has this. The only question is when the start lending it to local law enforcement.

That is precisely the point of why the next truck I buy will be a pre-1990 version with a straight 6 engine and a 2 bbl carburetor. Anyone comes near it with a black box is gonna get smacked. No smart phones, tablets or body chips allowed either.
Toll booths are going to be a problem though.
“I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.” --Candidate Barack Obama, Sept. 12, 2008
“No one making less than $250,000 under Barack Obama’s plan will see one single penny of their tax raised whether it’s their capital gains tax, their income tax, investment tax, any tax.” --Joe Biden, Vice-Presidential debate in St. Louis, Oct. 3, 2008
2012:
“So if your family makes under $250,000 -- which, by the way, 98 percent of Americans do -- 97 percent of small businesses do, you will not see your income taxes increase by a single dime next year. That’s my plan. -- August 8, 2012 Grand Junction, CO
“Now, if your family makes under $250,000 -- which, by the way, is 98 percent of American families and 97 percent of small businesses -- under my plan, your income taxes would not increase a single dime next year. (Applause.) That’s my plan.” -- August 9, 2012 in Colorado Springs, CO
“So if your family makes $250,000 a year or less -- like 98 percent of Americans -- you won’t see your income taxes increase by a single dime next year under my plan. Not one dime.” -- August 13, 2012 in Boone, IA

Think of our corrupt government officials at ALL levels (local, state and federal) as drug addicts.
They have taxed, taxed and taxed, to support their habit.
Now that their habit of spending has become and issue, because they are spending more than they are taking in, they have to resort to stealing. The problem lies with the fact that their habits have created many victims that they never considered their behavior to effect.
I say it is time for an INTERVENTION.......

Progressive states that your rates WON'T go up.
That said, ITS every few miles to gather and track usage? That's some creepy big brother stuff.
How long before the license plate readers on SOME cop cars are scattered every few miles around ALL metropolitan areas constantly reading license plates (and alerting LE) any time anything is triggered. Scary.
That one photo of the old stone bridge is just sad having those readers and chainlink fence on top. I'm sure it was once beautiful, picturesque, and now it's a tacky servant of the police state.edit on 27-10-2013 by Liquesence because: (no reason given)

The more taxes we spend, the less money we have for necessities, the more we require government assistance. How people cannot understand this boggles my mind.
USE OF GAS CHAMBERS
“We should find ourselves committed to killing a great many people whom we now leave living, and to leave living a great many people whom we at present kill. We should have to get rid of all ideas about capital punishment … A part of eugenic politics would finally land us in an extensive use of the lethal chamber. A great many people would have to be put out of existence simply because it wastes other people’s time to look after them.”

Education Society, Reported in The Daily Express, March 4,
1910.
KILLING THOSE “UNFIT TO LIVE”
“The moment we face it frankly we are driven to the conclusion that the community has a right to put a price on the right to live in it …
If people are fit to live, let them live under decent human conditions. If they are not fit to live, kill them in a decent human way. Is it any wonder that some of us are driven o prescribe the lethal chamber as the solution for the hard cases which are at present made the excuse for dragging all the other cases down to their level, and the only solution that will create a sense of full social responsibility in modern populations?”

and Co., 1934), p. 296.
These are not isolated statements...
Well maybe if we go along with the whole black box thing, taxing us on the actual number of miles we drive, then maybe we could abolish, Registration fees, excise taxes, annual personal property tax, Federal use tax for the big riggs and last but not least the tax we pay at the pump.
I know, I know...it's a pipe dream.
