I feel your pain, I have watched as women allowed a certain degradation to slip in for about the past 20 some odd years. It is almost as if they are being controlled by an unseen energy which is not in the least bit sensuous, nor sexy, it is debauchery and of a lower dimensional energy. It is not about what parents allow or dont alow, it is far greater than that alone.

Stay the course, stay good.

The OP wasn't arguing against sexuality in general. The problem are the nuances in the clip that most people are not able to see apparently.

video is just disturbing. I've never seen something obscene like that on TV before, it's not even erotic or something like that, but rather just agressively sexual and inappropriate for girl her age and to be on TV in general. She used to be kid star and was really sweet, but it's obvious she must have gone through some programming as many other female pop musicians and I think this video is about it. I won't go into detail, you will probably get that vibe that something is deeply wrong with how she combines look of innocent child that is hurt and crying and at the same time she is portrayed as purely sexual being, perhaps a victim of sexual abuse.

I completely agree with the OP and there is nothing ridiculous about her comment.

Then learn to research and apply a little thought.

Director of the video is Terry Richardson, a famous photographer who does very sexy and sometimes nude photo shoots. He's a world renown photographer. If you've seen any of his work you can connect the dots to Miley's video.

That's far from suggesting she was sexually abused as a child or something of that nature. And if you knew anything about marketing, breaking free from from her childhood image is also likely part of the strategy, as it was was Aguilera and Britney Spears, or were they just victims of sexual abuse as a child as well?

Your comment is just as ridiculous.

Quite ridiculous opinion, OP.

You'd only say that after living in the American media bubble. Spend some time in Europe where there's topless commercials selling milk. Spend time in Europe and compare Miley to many European female artists who actually show more skin. Sex sells. While you might not like it, it's not solely in music either. Look at Hollywood. Look at certain shows on HBO or Showtime showing full on male and female nudity.

Why are Americans so afraid of sexuality? Why is this so disturbing to you after everyone from Madonna to Cher to Britney to Fergie to Aguilera to Lady Gaga to Rihanna to a number of European and South American artists I could name.

She's not a child. She's an entertainer. Sex sells in entertainment everywhere aside from a place like Saudi Arabia. It's not porn. It's entertainment. If she did this in any number of countries no one would blink. For some reason nudity in America is considered evil by some. They're afraid of it while their kids play violent video games hour after hour. I don't get it and it's apparent when I travel. Not uncommon on many Euro beaches to see more woman topless than not and wearing thongs. Do that here and you're a slut and trying to sexualize everything.

Maybe the problem is Americans want to tie all their insecurities into seeing someone's buttcheek and want to blame the buttcheek for their insecurities. The Janet Jackson fiasco over her nipple a few years ago shows just how ridiculous this all has gotten. You want to hide your kids from nipples, go right ahead. In Europe however their kids grow up just fine even with all the nudity and generally don't grow into the violent war mongerers and large percentages of people with mental problems we have here. I'm amazed at how much more mentally stable the average Eastern European is when I travel. Less resources, more nudity on tv yet we're the country pumping out nutcases by the millions.

Exactly, many people are just jealous and or insecure. Although, we also have the "moral crew" but I think it's more of the jealous/insecure crew that are more outraged.

Noone suggested she was abused herself. It's what the video portrays.

Director of the video is Terry Richardson, a famous photographer who does very sexy and sometimes nude photo shoots.

Who directed it doesn't really matter. It isn't sexy either. At least I don't think it is sexy at all and I am quite a perv.

NeoParadigm

She looks like a boy......you think her look was not a conscious choice?
Did I say that her look wasn't a conscious choice? Nope. Didn't say that. Of course it was.

NeoParadigm

it depends on what they wanted to portray exactly. You want to argue that she is not at least boyish looking? It's ok if you think it is hot.
Did I say that she wasn't 'at least boyish looking'? Nope. Didn't say that either.

ok then, so what was I saying?
That this↓ is a ridiculous statement.

NeoParadigm

They do their best to make her look like (a male) one though.

Maybe a visual aid will help you understand.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/files/img/yo523f9901.jpg[/atsimg]

If that↑look was from somebody
'doing their best' at making her look like a boy,
then they need to find a new line of work,
because they're not fooling anyone but you.
That's undoubtedly 100% female.

Welcome to the 1990's. It was a magical time during which it became acceptable for boys to have long hair, and for women to have short hair.
(and the mullet is dead. So it's a win/win/win)

I asked you a question. I said they made her look like a boy, you objected to that, hence my question.

Did I say that she wasn't 'at least boyish looking'? Nope. Didn't say that either.

I didn't say you did. I asked you if you were going to argue against it. There seem to be some reading comprehension problems.

Yes Miley has breasts and no penis. I am not going to post other stills from her video but,

That is very simple minded point of view. It's not about her, but about society and what is acceptable. Also obviously, someone is constantly pushing the boundaries with more perverted stuff not in favour of our culture and civilization.

Screw society. Only sheep want others to tell them how to live their lives as long as they are not hurting anyone else then they can do as they please. That's the American point of view. If parents are too lazy to get off their butts and pay attention to what their child is watching then they shouldn't have had them.

This is why my children will be growing up in the mountains, where there is a sense of community and moral values. That's my town. Of course, no one is wrapped in cotton wool and protected from the outside, but there are a sense of values here and it's not every thing goes.

The best thing that could have ever happened to me was getting rid of cable, and renting only the things I want to see. It feels good to be somewhat disconnected. The internet might be next, I don't know. I know that I will not allow my children to grow up seeing filth and becoming mindless bots from shoddy education and media mind programming.

Oh for the love of God. Miley Cyrus is just a blip on the radar. She by no means represents any great degradation in our culture.

While I was growing up, it was 2Live Crew. Or NWA. Or The Ghetto Boyz. They said some really, really nasty stuff on their albums. Things I wouldn't even say to my wife Things that make the Yin Yang Twins look somewhat normal, even mild. Too Short....I think we all remember....

....it isn't like we are reinventing sex or anything. If you have done it, it was done a billion times before you ever even thought of it. Hell, the ancient Indians wrote an entire book on it.

Get a grip people.

Would you be surprissed if they would start to appear in your children's Disney movies?

A bit of a bad comparison.

Miley Cyrus reaches a lot more people and a different age group.

There are millions of girls still watching Hannah Montana while on the other channel she is sucking of a sledge hammer squirming on he floor.

I don't really care because there is no problem if you raise your children well, but I do understand that people raise an eyebrow.

I couldn't agree with you more.

The sad thing is, while everyone is up in arms, making a big deal about here, she's probably sitting in the luxury of her cozy mansion, twirling the troth thinking about people like us having discussions about her.

I think the majority of us probably acted out at some point. We all want to be considered an adult eventually and this girl has been shown as a wholesome teenage Disney character for a long time. The life of a child star sounds horrible to me, I can see why they so often flip. You and I don't have our teen to adult temper tantrums broadcast to the world because we aren't famous, but for her this is probably like wearing a slutty dress to the family picnic. I remember thinking I was edgy wearing baggy pants.

The performance and some of her exploits are very cringe worthy. If anything this is only going to serve to give her more attention, and the more people act outraged and shocked, the more the kids are going to snatch up her next album in an attempt to assert their own independence and establish they are adults vicariously.

i keep hearing people talk crap about her singing ability. She's not great, but she's not that bad. This whole thing just embarrasses me. I'm embarrassed for her, and for the people that take so much issue. Not to mention the kids fawning over her. She's trying to transition and stay relevant. I get it. Remember X-tina?
