jaws joint advanced weapon system

The JAWS joint advanced weapon system is the missile system planned to replace the tow and possibley hellfire. JAWS is suppose to possess a true "fire and forget capability". This is to be accomplished through an infared imagering sysem that will allow will the missile to seek targets on the battelfield for which it has been programmed. For instance if the missile is looking for an enemy T-72 tank but instead sees a friendly m1-A1 tank, the missile will not home in on the friendly tank. The JAWS is the joint service multi-role follow on weapon system for the current tow and hellfire missiles, to support the army and the USMC mission need statements for weapon requirments for the post 2000 force structure.

I think this missile is great! Its programmable searching mode will allow certain vehicles to be programmed in to its target list. A great thing to have on close air support, fire support, and anti-armor missions.

Any weapon system that has a friendly Fire safe guard has to be a move in the right direction , in these times of multi country offences.
