I've always felt the war in Syria had little to do with democracy and a lot to do with money. Qatar and the natural gas and pipeline angle and now followed by Israels grant of oil exploration rights in the occupied Golan Heights to Genie Energy.

So who is this Genie Energy anyway?

Major shareholders of Genie Energy – which also has interests in shale gas in the United States and shale oil in Israel – include Rupert Murdoch and Lord Jacob Rothschild.

Well that clears things up a bit. However can Israel really parcel out unexplored resources in an occupied territory? No, not really.

For Israel to seek to exploit mineral reserves in the occupied Golan Heights is plainly illegal in international law. Japan was successfully sued by Singapore before the International Court of Justice for exploitation of Singapore’s oil resources during the second world war.

So, what most of us already suspected or partially knew continues to be validated. This war is simply about money and resources. Business as usual, nothing to see here.
