Being religious and being spiritual are two different things.
Sometimes people use the words interchangeably and use the word that doesn't really fit.

I'd say that if someone uses those two words interchangeably, they already don't know what spirituality means.

Religion is faux-spirituality in my opinion.

I can't help but agree.

If you think that a 3000 year old piece of literature can be used to kill, maim, hate or otherwise oppress other people, than you do have a mental illness.

Just because you think it's what God wants, doesn't make it any less insane.

Remember they are talking about fundamentalists. Not your mom and pop who attend church every week and hold moderate Christian or ( insert religion here) ideals.

No. I will not stand idly by while psychos commit their lives to harming others in the name of their God. If they would like to discuss how bad people are in the name of God, that's fine, I have no issues with anybody having beliefs that don't line up with mine.

What I will not tolerate, is extremism and fundamentalism in any group of individual action.

I will not bow to the PC crowd of toleration in the face of oppression and violence.

I see this a littler bit too much as using the term "mental illness" to tag a specific group. But when a case like the one that is been used in this happen, mental illness could be very much the reason for murder.

If a parent allow their child to die for lack of medical help due to believes in the supernatural, then that should be considered child abuse and the law should apply accordingly.

Still some people that are true believers can be in denial about how much their believes can affect another human being to cause death, then to me in this cases can be considered a Mental illness.

The only thing I don't agree is that a whole group of people be tagged for the mistakes of some.

And being "diagnosed" (charged or declared) as "mentally ill" then you can kiss your 2A rights away also.

Yes i know there are drugs that do that.

But religion is free, non-prescribed, take anytime and how many times you want to... to top that off, they teach you at early age to take the drug known as religion.

My mom "kicked" me out of the house many times(during my teenage years) for talking against god, but im glad her motherly love for me was too strong it let it be consumed by her submission to god.

I thought about that one too, lately we have seen a lot of "possible tagging" coming from law enforcement and judges that very much could be in the same ban wagon as those trying to create certain ways to ban more and more of the population from their rights to the 2nd amendment.

Mental illness can span many ways.

I don't think all belief is considered fundamentalism. Fundamentalism, to me, is the dangerously religious. Muslim extremism, Christians who want to remove rights of non-Christians, those from any faith who endorse slavery, racial segregation, and ethnic superiority, like the Russian Neo Nazi groups that have been luring, beating, and murdering homosexuals.

If your religious affiliation encourages murder then your fundamentalism probably is representative of deeper psychological or mental instability. If, on the other hand, your religious affiliation allows for the free expression and practice of another's belief / non-belief, then you're probably not part of the problem, and are just fine.

My opinion at least.

Why should anyone care? anyone reading this is already eligible for treatment under new guidelines. I see a true christian fundamentalist as someone who loves. Afterall that is the whole of the law. That could mean that all those churches that chose love over gender may need treatment.
