What an awkward situation this has turned out to be.
Seems like the school could have [should have] handled it better.

I understand her point, slower and harder to learn when it's mostly in Spanish.
And yet, they do have an obligation to the Spanish speaking students as well.

Definitely sounds like law suit material if it went down the way the nursing student claims.
There was no need in name calling or suspension IMO.

Curious as to how it turns out........

The spanish student are in America, in an American school. Perhaps they should learn english?

Just read the "other side" link. So it appears that it was spanish students talking between themselves.

I'm from south Texas and a great deal of employees speak nothing but Spanish. I complained in a Wal Mart once, when I asked to speak to the manager she didn't even speak english well, and when I complained she had security escort me out and "ban" me from the store.

I keep hearing stories like this, where you can't even go into an American store or quick food place without hearing spanish. If you are conducting business in America that has nothing to do with international business or having to be a translator, you should be using the common language of the land which is english. Otherwise it is rude and disrespectful.

I couldn't imagine moving to another country and having the entire country cater to me like that.

Yep that's south Texas for you specially the border cities like Laredo where it's 99% Hispanic. All kids are bilingual because they eventually learn spanish since they speak it so much in schools as well.
I don't have a problem with that I just think English should be a requirement for employment since I'm sure there are people applying for that position that do know English.

This is Laredo, Texas in a nutshell.

If she doesn't like Spanish she probably shouldn't be a nurse in AZ - it's like a zombie horde of barely conscious, over weight, retards working in AZ. It puts out incompetents in CA on notice that there is a possibly lower level they can sink to.

Wow. Unbelievable. What he said about as well was uncalled for, and highly inappropriate. What gets me is he says she should be tolerant, and then turns around and says those things about her? Hypocrisy much? I mean some people are so ignorant it is pathetic. I guess some Americans need a bit of refreshment regarding America and her Constitution.

And why is it that those who agree with this crap cannot see that SHE was being discriminated against by their refusing to conduct the class in the language that the majority of those in the US speak? English has been the non-official language of the US since its birth, and this should not be changed because immigrants, especially illegals, are too lazy or inept to learn the language. Why should naturally born US citizens suffer for the educational lapses of these immigrants?

Those immigrants who flooded into America in the 19th and early 20th centuries were the kinds of immigrants that people would want in their country. They worked their butts off to learn English and acclimatize to their new country. And more importantly, they pledged loyalty. Most of the Mexican immigrants today want to come here and get the benefits of being American, without submitting to America. If you want to conduct all your business in spanish, GO BACK to Mexico, or wherever you came from. I am so sick of immigrants coming here and attempting to change things, citing "discrimination" when in fact it is the other group that is actually being discriminated against.

This has been going on for too long now. People are afraid to speak the truth because someone will be there to call them a racist, or claim they are discriminating against some other group. It is utter nonsense, and is a tactic that works, and THAT is why it is used, despite the fact that those claiming these things are actually the guilty parties. I mean I have seen Mexican immigrants actually flying Mexican flags from their houses in AMERICA. Really? And someone wants to tell me they are coming here for the benefit of America and her citizens? No, the opposite is true. They are causing our country to recess into this economic and social puddle of muck. I am all for LEGAL immigration, granting that those coming here legally are willing to accept the rules and standards and all things that make America great.

So I am not against immigration. EVERYONE should be against illegal immigration, since the freakin word ILLEGAL is right there in the title. No, people don't want to do it the legal way, because then they would have to pay taxes on their wages. Then they couldn't get government assistance, sponging off the actual morally acceptable Americans, and would actually have to contribute the way they are supposed to in this country. I mean it really should sicken every single American citizen who cares about the ideals this country was founded on.

And don't try to say that immigration is a tenet this country was founded on. I know this already, as I stated above. But the Founding Fathers did NOT mean illegal immigration. There is a right and wrong way to do it. And WHY would we want someone who has proven right off the bat that they don't care about our laws, actually coming to live in our country? So instead of wanting acceptance from those who are already here, they are apparently just planning on taking over through the influx of illegal immigrants, until the majority of the citizenry are not even actual citizens. We need to step up deportations and close the borders in a better manner. There are still legal channels to immigrate to the US, and I suggest these law-breakers try those.

Disgusting. There should at least be two classes. But even if there was, how can a person that only speak Spanish really help as a nurse? "Hand me that *Insert whatever medical tool or medication here*", "No habla inglais"...

And that's why I feel it's important that people learn the language of the country they want to live and work in. I mean, in reality it's not much to ask.

In the medical field, there shouldn't be any other class but those taught in english only. Anyone who is that bad at english who needs a translator, has no business endangering lives in that chosen field.
