Saudi religious scholars support holy war against U.S. forces in Iraq

Prominent Saudi religious scholars urged Iraqis to support militants waging holy war against the U.S.-led coalition. The 26 highly regarded Saudi scholars and preachers said in an open letter to the Iraqi people that their appeal was prompted by

"the extraordinary situation through which the Iraqis are passing, which calls for unity and exchange of views."

"At no time in history has a whole people been violated . . . by propaganda that's been proved false."

"The U.S. forces are still destroying towns on the heads of their people and killing women and children. What's going on in Iraq is a result of the big crime of America's occupation of Iraq."

"Fighting the occupiers is a duty for all those who are able," the letter said. "It is a jihad to push back the assailants. Resistance is a legitimate right. A Muslim must not inflict harm on any resistance man or inform on them. Instead, they should be supported and protected."

Uh oh, sounds like a call to all muslims to feel sympathy towards the Iraqi resistance cause. What are the chances of this unifying muslim countries to declare jihad on the West and spell the beginning of world war III?

I would say that it would be the begining of a very short war and the end to "islam".

I highly doubt that the rest of the free muslim world really wants to get drawn into an extended battle with "jeudo-christians" as this will be the epic battle between "good and evil" and evil will surely be cast out.

The west will strike at every target capable of causing Mass Destruction and then draft a million plus soliders for a 7 year campaign of land based anhilation of the "enemy".

Wake up.

WW 3 started on 9/11.

We just happen to be winning it so far, and that has the radical clerics running scared.

btw..I'm tired of this "religious scholar"..."holy site" BS.

"Providing the substantially increased resources needed to re-equip a transforming military and rebuild human-intelligence capabilities (minus, if at all possible, the sorts of intelligence "reforms" contemplated pre-election that would make matters worse on this and other scores) while we fight World War IV;"

I don't know, but well, some either think we've had WW 3 or they are in advanced planning for the next war......maybe we all slept through WW 3, and no one thought to wake us. Or maybe this guy just can't count...don't know..

A very interesting article, read what one of Bush's advisers is advising...

Who is Frank J. Gaffney, Jr.?

"Frank Gaffney is the president and CEO of one of the main neo-conservative think tanks, the Center for Security Policy (CSP) in Washington. He has served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy (1987), Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Forces and Arms Control Policy (1983-1987) - under Assistant Secretary Richard Perle - and Professional Staff Member on the Senate Armed Services Committee, chaired by Senator John Tower (1981-1983). In the late 1970s, Gaffney was an aide to Senator Henry 'Scoop' Jackson in the areas of defense and foreign policy.

Gaffney was a signatory to the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) Statement of Principles in 1997 and is extremely supportive of Israel. Gaffney is a columnist for the Washington Times, a monthly contributor to Defense News and Investor's Business Daily, a contributing editor to National Review Online and a columnist for American Spectator Online, WorldNetDaily.com and JewishWorldReview.com

Although Gaffney is regarded as a neo-conservative, he professes to dislike the term and prefers to describe himself, Richard Perle and others of their ilk as 'realists.' Some disagree with his use of the term, pointing out that in the field of international relations and strategic studies, 'realists' consider that peace is best maintained by realizing a balance of power between states; thus former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger would be seen as a realist, while the neo-conservatives who disparaged his approach are 'idealists.'"
