It always seems like there is nothing but doom and gloom flying around. I saw this, and it just seemed like a really nice story...

This duck is named Buttercup. He was born with a backwards left foot. Buttercup lives in Arlington, Tennessee at the Feathered Angels Waterfowl Sanctuary, where owner Mike Garey decided not only to amputate Buttercup's foot (Garey says it would be too painful and prone to infections), but also to design a replacement foot as well. Garey used Buttercup's sister Minnie's left foot as the basis for the design of Buttercup's new foot, which he modeled using 3D software. Once the artificial mold was designed, Garey sent the design to a 3D-printing company called NovaCopy, who printed out and donated a three-dimensional mold of the foot. That mold was used to create and test various silicone feet for Buttercup to try out on his non-footed leg. As CNET reports, "Buttercup, currently walking around on his stump, is due to get his new foot very soon, with the final design arriving in the next two weeks.

Buttercup the duck

My wife and I work with animals, and it's nice to see how we can help our little friends. Besides... ducks are cute

Best of luck to him. Wish we had 3D printers when I volunteered in duck and wildlife rescue. These printers are going to pave the way for ease in access of prosthetics.

I had a joke about one of it's leg being literally the same..

but then I read your comment and I'd rather go neck myself.

You're a true human you are. Awesome. Such a man.

Just neck it, eh? Is that what the pros call it? No but seriously, you do realize that if they decide not to eat it, then it won't be food? Maybe they have a strange condition where they believe the joy they get from taking care of it and watching it interact with its surroundings, and the love they have for it outweighs the nutritional value they would get from eating it.

Now, if they did decide to eat it, then whatever, that's fine. I eat meat too. I don't have a problem with that. I just wanted to point out that you may want to rephrase your post to say "potential food" instead of "food". Then it would be logically sound and I won't have to get all anal about it.
