50 years from now, they'll open this thread and you'll be sat there grumping over something Oo "Why is this thread still in the Current Events section, it should be in the off topic chit chat section, why wheres a mod when you need them, they're never here. I swear you kids..."

Haha I think it's funny that people think it's odd that in the 60's they had plastic bags and paper towels.

And the equivalent of MREs.

Holy buckets, that makes me feel old.. when the 60's is like the dark ages to people..

oO

Oh dang it's like that episode of Malcolm in the Middle.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?

The father and sons find a hole in their backyard. The sons lock the father in it so they can go do something fun. The dad starts freaking out in the dark hole, finds a light switch by accident, and the lights go on. It ends up being a totally pimped out bomb shelter with swank 60's decor, music, alcohol, classic Playboys, food, etc. So the dad keeps sneaking in there as his private getaway.

My husband calls "the fallout shelter" the bathroom

You okay in there, honey?!?

Awesome pictures, thanks for posting. A very cool time warp there.

Buuuut, I wouldn't call that "fully stocked," unless there are other pictures. More like almost-bare cupboard.

Argyle Socks!!!! Bwhahahahahahahaha!!! I remember when everyone wore those!

Not often you find both a time capsule and a bomb shelter in your backyard. And those magazines are worth a fortune!

I agree, open up a museum and charge admission.

Hey wait a minute? You mean you're not supposed to wear argyle socks? But I look darn sexy in my knee high argyle socks! And I don't care what anybody says about it

Multi purpose Food - they actually made stuff like that back then?
Just weird.
Cool story.

It looks like they're making that everything-food stuff again, armored babe...
seems like a trend every generation and a half when people think a hole in
the ground will save them.

Too bad, really: It's like duck and cover for adults. And we can come back out when the
food runs out in three weeks and the gubment says it's safe...
and radiologically
cook like so many Ball Park Franks in a couple of days anyway.

/sarc on... I can't help it/
NEAT sleeping bag though-- I wonder how many different, brand new species of exotic
skin parasites called that their Sybaris for a one-nighter or two eeEEEEUUUUUUuuuu.

It kind of makes me homesick for the Scouts in '62, when the north half of my state
was overrun for the first time with earwigs. That tenth merit badge should have been
for entymology..Urrrgh. But HEY WE'RE GOIN' CAMPIN!! /sarc off

It's the best, Phage.Take a 2:1 mix of that and lizard urine and
mix it quickly into a paste. Better than five minute epoxy for the
cracks in the concrete from being a little too near G-Zero.
Got to move fast, though. If the lizard found your Pabst Blue Ribbon
stash the stuff will indeed set up in three minutes from the acetone.

Coffee, booze, sleeping pills, and multi purpose food! Clearly this guy was a nuclear engineer, and not a rocket scientist.

Gees, they should clean it up and restock it with new food. If I built a shelter in the fifties, I would have had something to barter with in there also....Gold and silver and also copper. I would think there would be ammo down there, the guy would keep the guns in the house though.
