Bill de Blasio, a Republican candidate in the New York City mayoral race, has received a threatening letter that appeared to be covered in blood. The
letter arrived last Friday at the office of the public advocate, de Blasio's current role, and was postmarked from the Bronx. The note was written in
Spanish and included the phrase 'this is real blood,' New York Police Department Commissioner Raymond Kelly told the press on Thursday. NYPD is
investigating after a second letter, apparently from the same sender, arrived at the public advocate's office on Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal
reported. The Public Advocate's Office is located in downtown Manhattan at 1 Centre Street. 'When the second letter came in yesterday that appeared to
be from the same person, they called the police,' Paul Browne, the chief spokesman for the NYPD, said in a statement. Police do not know if the
substance from the first letter is in fact blood. De Blasio, 52, previously served as a city council member and was elected to the public advocate's
office in 2010. He has made homelessness and education the top issues for his post, which represents the concerns of New Yorkers to city
government.
News of the de Blasio letters come just a day after police revealed two threatening letters laced with ricin were sent to current New York City Mayor
Michael Bloomberg.
