Dont get me wrong, this IS impressive. But I just think that I would like to see the same control method applied to an actual problem , rather than used in a purely artistic manner, cute and inspiring as it was to behold.

For example, I would love to know if the people who made this animation could come up with a way of controlling vast numbers of atoms simultaneously, and remotely (without the requirement for a solid metal needle), thus making possible all manner of interesting self constructing objects.

I think moving individual atoms around is (or was) an actual problem.
