I freakin love this gun billboard (features Native Americans)

First off, let me point out that I'm Native American and I think it's ridiculous for any Native American to pretend this billboard is offensive to them. What they should really admit is that they are pro-gun control and this billboard has nothing to do with their being offended as a Native American. This billboard puts it all into perspective really. It simply points out the plight of the Native American after signing peace treaties with the government...poverty, dependence, alcoholism. The U.S. Government said, "Give up your guns, we'll take care of you," with promised welfare, health care, education, a reservation home land, housing, etc... Bottom line...Reservations have become small pockets of socialism within one of the strongest democratic nations in the world, well, what used to be strong democracy. And we all know how far along the socialist nations of the world have gone!

But Irene Vernon, a Colorado State University professor and chairwoman of the ethnic studies department, told the Associated Press that the plight of Native Americans history with the U.S. is much more complicated than whether or not American Indians were armed.

This billboard is only in Greeley, CO, and a local professor/Native American, who heads the Ethics department at a local university came out complaining that it is offensive to her Native American heritage. How? Obviously, this professor is a liberal anti-gun Obama supporter who would rather see the guns taken away. She was only upset because the billboard speaks volumes of truth...

I think many Native's probably agree with me here whether they are Obama supporting democrats (which nearly 100% of Native Americans are, well, on the Reservations in my neck of the woods anyways) or a gun-toting conservatives.

"I am a Navajo Indian and I am not offended by the billboard. The billboard merely points out broken promises by the U.S. government," said one comment.

I personally agree with this billboard...DON'T GIVE UP YOUR GUNS AMERICA! THE GOVERNMENT CAN'T TAKE CARE OF YOU, ONLY YOU CAN TAKE CARE OF YOU!

Excellent thread (as always ). It may be a little off center of P.C. to some folks these days....but no less accurate for that. I'd seen something real similar to this one on a T-shirt in the truck stops a few years back. I still wish I'd picked it up. Like yours, it's SO accurate it just vibrates with truth.



Yes, indeed. They were the first ...and the first to see what Government abuse could bring while a public stood by and passively watched at best ..cheered at worst.

1/3 Cherokee here, I find it awesome. Of course it takes a lot to offend me. I grew up watch John Wayne kill them "durn injuns".

Looking past the obvious Native Americans holding guns picture, it speaks volumes to anybody who is familiar with native american history. Small pox ridden blankets, Trail of tears, treaty after treaty broken and violated, forced reservations, its disgusting how the romans, errr I mean colonial americans treated them. It shows that the corruption in our government is not recent, and has been going on for over 200 years. Then look back to this same mindset of politics and government in england, their treatment of the scots, invasion of jerusalem, etc. Then go back to the romans and how they acted.

All roads lead to Rome. Want to know how America is going? Look to Rome. (wow, I meandered way off topic there)

/applauds~ Well said sir. Well said! I can't think of a better trump card in the Gun-Debates than the history of the American Indians, if there is a better one I'm not seeing it. I also briefly saw this on the MSM today but had to run to work so I didn't get a chance to see the billboard itself.

You mean to tell me that the Obama death squads, which the Republicans and Conservatives have promised us ever since Obama took office, aren't going from door to door breaking in demanding everyone to turn in their guns?

We have companies advertising bullet-proof backpacks for children so they can wear to school....

Perhaps you see the billboard as pointless because you miss the point. It's not really about guns, it's about trusting the promises of the US Government. I can't think of anyone for whom that ever worked out well. If we trust the US Government to decide which rights we are allowed to exercise, we will be sorry. They are relentless. They will never stop taking, and taking, and taking, and taking ...

That being said, I am offended by that billboard. I don't see any representatives of the proud Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. Of course, the reps I know might have been tending their stills when the photo was taken, but I guarantee you that they were armed.

People forget that history has a way of repeating itself.
I believe as my husband does, the present government in the United States of America is Very Afraid that
We The People Will Wake Up and Stand Against as One and Fight to get our Freedoms Back and Our Country Back!

I looked up Wounded knee on the internet, I know my husband is half of Lakota Sioux Indians, his father is full blood.

The signboard is MOST CERTANILY in bad taste.

And the blame should be attributed in FULL to the anti-gun lobby whom are living in disneyland, for unnecessarily opening up a can of worms over their stupidity to challenge the 2nd amendment without resolving the deeper issue of violence.

NOW, every 2 bit citizen with an axe to grind against US and neighbours will ply the highways and hallways of every space to thrash the idiotic anti-gun lobby and opportunity to hit out at the US govt. This is only the beginning of widespread consequences of the anti-gun stupidity, which was unnecessary AT ALL!

High time the Republican party steps forward and smokes the pipes of peace with the angry People, and get the inconceivably stupid democrats over the gun policy to issue a statement in bold that they are NOT gunning for americans' guns, now or ever, inorder to pacify the nation, or hell will break loose by those whom have no conscience for human life or even rationality over long buried and settled old wounds.

From a pure advertising standpoint, it is a pretty good billboard - especially considering it comes from the right. But from a reality standpoint, of course, it's sensationalist, fear-mongering BS.
