LivingSocial recently experienced a cyber-attack on our computer systems that resulted in unauthorized access to some customer data from our servers. We are actively working with law enforcement to investigate this issue.

The information accessed includes names, email addresses, date of birth for some users, and encrypted passwords -- technically ‘hashed’ and ‘salted’ passwords. We never store passwords in plain text.

The database that stores customer credit card information was not affected or accessed.

IMHO it could not happen to nicer folks. I recently got shafted to the tune of 14k from them. I won't see it for three years (or so they say) when the offer I did expires. Damn fine print!

The big question really; Who hacked them? Cyber crooks are everywhere. Managing passwords these days is becoming a serious chore. Every darn website " Password please". It has really gotten to be a pain.

Now off I go to reset yet another password.

Hopefully they added a salt to the password hashes, unlike the idiots at LinkedIn.
