If I had $100bn/£100bn in straight hard cash, what would I invest in for the benefit of humanity (and also ensuring future wealth growth for myself)?

What could I set up? What would I invest in? What are the world's poorest in need of? What are we, generally as a species, in need of?

Isn't this thread virtually the same as your other thread?

What Could You Actually Do With $100bn? Could You Actually "Change" The World?

I'd suggest you build a fortress with very large walls first coz a lot of very powerful people will be looking into how they can get their grubby mits on your cash.

Yes, but I put it in the wrong thread - I had new tech/investment in mind, hence why I now posted it in Science & Tech.

It's not what you could do yourself, but what you could help other people do. We all see the news of all kinds of inventions, initiatives and ideas. What if these people got funded? That would change the world. Say Mars one got all of it's 6 billion investment. There you go...Mars is colonized. You could fund projects for Peta, SeaShephard, Greenpeace, Doctors without borders, Build schools....etc. If you really vetted your projects correctly, you could change humanity forever.

Buy an part of earth, some islands maybe.
And there start new high tech society, free energy, free food, scientist base, and create new offers on stock market relating solutions for technilogy for free food, technology for free energy etc. And through that offers bring world to you, to become as you independant. Best part is how u then through free market beat a others imperialists through they game, a economy, and win is when someone become as u on ur side, then economy is not neceseary.
All that depends on free food industry or some hitech stuff, and free energy.

I'd give a sizable chunk of it to THIS GUY, Eric Dollard, but for security reasons I'd make sure he developed his new lab somewhere outside the United States.

His goal is to rebuild Wardenclyffe (he is the only person alive who can) and to make free energy available to everyone on earth.

Here is a link to his videos and publications.

I'd also establish a school for electrical engineering geniuses to study under him so the technology cannot be lost again.

I wish you'd put it toward finding how each individual on the planet, would be energy independent. It is the key toward getting the jackboot of tyranny, meted out by a handful of psychopaths, off of everyone's neck.

Anti-Gravity (electrogravitic systems)

Free Energy Technology (Zero Point, Vacuum Energy)

Cheap High Volume Desalination technology

World on way to being fixed with those. This is the human races goal right now in our physical world.

Well you don't want a lot of liquid cash, because as we see it can devalue over night. So first thing would be buy some land. If it was me Id build some kind of compound, have part of it as a research and development test facility. Im sure gravity manipulation is possible and will be achieved at some point, if it hasn't already been of course, but that would be one area I'd put alot of effort into. I would also put a lot of effort into developing nuclear fusion.

For larger projects to aid society right now, I would build huge free boarding schools, for young people from deprived areas. This would be to literally change society and our cult of individualism and greed and it would make people remember they belong to a community which they all have to contribute towards in order for their own life to be contented and peaceful. The reason I'd build boarding schools is because people who come from deprived neighborhoods or families do not break that cycle unless they are removed from it, where as in our society the only people who go to boarding schools are the rich who already come from nice neighborhoods . My model of a boarding school would be completely different to how schools are currently run. More like a voluntary un-education camp to deprogram all the crap that people get brainwashed with. Students would get the best teachers, the environment would be modern with the best facilities and each student would have their own room with no TV etc.. all would have to abide by a contract and if they broke the rules they would be out. If you have a new generation that actually sees they are connected to the world as a family and species then you will get a world that pulls together for the collective. Yes its basically socialism, but the every man for himself, capitalist model, has broken the family, broken the society and damaged our environment, possibly beyond repair.

We have to move towards a socialist future, but also insure that it pushes in the right directions, where technological advancement is the key to all our efforts in freeing every man and woman from poverty and toil.

I would suggest heavy investments in nano-fabrication. symthetics will pave the way towards so many leaps in humanity in the next few hundred years and the ball is already rolling.

Science science science..the more focused, the better. don't just give investments into general sci-tech...focus in on specific feasible trades.
Cryonics, Genetics, etc.

Its nice to dream...just don't get lost in it. I assume if you had 100b, you would be discussing this with financial advisors and not some grubworms on ats.

well my first step would be as a member posted earlier, build some where to stash my money.

next i wouldn't worry trying to come up with any sort of hardware tech, renewable resources, free energy, or any thing like that. someone would figure away to get their hands on it and only big money, the government, or the very corrupt would reap the benefits of it.

if you really want to help humanity, find a more efficient, more productive, more yielding non gmo way to produce food. also you might want to look into water.

there are more hungry people in the world than any thing else. sometime in near the future i could see, food and water being used as a control mechanism over the population.

One hundred billion?

Forget technology investment for a start. And forget getting a return on your investment that you can measure in currency as well. Just wipe out third world poverty, by installing water pumps all over the places which fall within that description, and with the money left over (which would be considerable) knock out debt there to boot.

You probably wouldnt see a single dollar or pound back on that investment, but you would save the world economy in a fell swoop, as long as you didnt ask the governments of the effected nations to be involved, which would see your resources wasted on big posh functions rather than actual progress in the nations concerned.

Your title question and your OP are at loggerheads. Your article headline reads like a philanthropic question, while your OP requests that you see something back for your investment. The truth is, that the problems that really need sorting in todays world, cannot be solved by a capitalistic need to see a return on investments, but by out and out selflessness, and a preparedness to leave ones self short a few billion without being overly sad about it.

I don't have to think for more than a second about what I'd do if I had a hundred billion. I've been sick my whole life and my mom has tried so hard to help me and she's very deep in debt now. Thankfully I'm still alive.

The first thing I would do after helping my mom, would be to help humanity and make a profit by investing in a company in Canada who's invented a cell pouch system. They work with a famous doctor, James Shapiro and are closer than any company in the world to curing both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, spinal cord injuries, Parkinson's disease, and hemophilia---it would be a profitable investment because people need cures. I'd also invest part of the billions in agricultural land, part of it in gold and silver mines, and part of it in a factory or two thus helping Americans get back to work, and bring quality American made products back to offer our country and the world.

What could I set up? What would I invest in? What are the world's poorest in need of? What are we, generally as a species, in need of?

This presupposes that you or your group 'could' do something that would benifit society.
Lets look back on history for clues.

Welfare in the US. Did it really change the lives of the millions that used it?

There are groups digging water wells for people in Africa. Why are they living in places where there is no surface water? You can't grow crops there.

There are foundations that let you give 'x' amount to sponsor a child. They feed, clothe, and school the child until the age of 18. Then they are cut free with no further support. Then you have an educated teen who is pissed at his government for not providing jobs. He joins the first militant group who will feed him. The building blocks of revolution and thousands of deaths.

Here in the US the government now gives free cell phones to the poor. So now the ignorant fools can talk to each other while hanging out on the street corner.

You have to recognize you can't fix the world or even a small piece of it. Just spend your money at the small places. Help keep the jobs in place. That way those who want to work will be able to. Those who don't want to will simply dial some crack head on their free phone.

This reply might get taken down b/c for some odd reason people get sensitive, but how about

Industrial hemp: Seeds provide a great source of protein, better then most meats, and healthy also (this could be used to feed the hungry nations) since hemp can grow in three months to maturity. And is very healthy for the soil it grows it, it produces very high amounts of oxygen, and the seeds could also be used to make flour, and other food products.

Hemp can also be used to make cement like material which is water proof/anti bacterial/strong fibers for building homes or any type of structure.

Hemp can also be used to be textiles for clothing and other simple functions, such as paper and lumber material in general, that can be replaced in 3 months at a time, removing the today's standard for deforestation.

Hemp oil could be used as fuel (the first car ever built was built out of hemp and ran on hemp oil) or cooking oil, the stronger Female plant of the hemp family produces oils used for medication, such as head aches and pains, nausea and ect...

Plus, the jobs and industry it can create is massive, just like it did back in the day.

Just one option, but that would be my first for sure, a great, healthy, and environmentally safe industry. Plus it can be grown world wide depending on the genome.

1: Storing hydrogen in a cheap and efficient way.

2: improving battery technology

3: Research alternative energies (although hydrogen will be the ticket)

Split it between ATSers, we can all find great uses for this money.

Seriously though, I would invest it in space exploration technology, trying to find a way to explore the bounderies of our galaxy....and beyond.
Beam me up scotty!!
