Just looking back on the Korean history:
North Koreans (NK) hate the Japanese because of previous wars in the past. They are technically able to bomb Japan. They are under pressure now from international powers.
NK is great buddies with China. Only reason they still are around is thanks to China, helping them against the US in the Korean war. No country in the world would get away with the war drums they are beating against the US, unless they are backed by another superpower.
If NK wants to make a real powerfull statement, while camouflaging their unability to strike US directly. Why not bomb an ally of the US on their weakest spot... Fukushima...
Theres enough spent fuel to make it impossible to live in the northen hemisphere.
Is Kim Jong Un mad enough to do this sic act when he gets really narrowed down?

( sorry for my English)
This is my first topic. Its probably a bit chaotic, but Its really on my mind lately and I needed to share this with you all..

Kim is following a well trodden path of massive threats and small provocations. For a start he has no reason to fear reaction to his nuclear test, recent history demonstrates that having this option makes him less assailable. Secondly harsh words and threats change the game if they are backed up with strength. He is not really in a position to hit the US and Hawaii in any meaningful way, therefore I believe that his threats on these two matters are made for home consumption but he does have the means to hit closer targets to great effect. I have been sat smoking a cigarette when an incoming missile alert drill has been broadcast over tannoy speakers and it does make you wonder how good Patriot really is.

But I can see no situation where the DPRK will be allowed to hit anything under US sovereignty, or on the mainland of South Korea without a response of equal but not overwhelming severity.

Fukushima is safe I think, for now.

If North Korea will do that, they will not only make Japan uninhabitable, but radioactive material released will most likely affect NK as well, since Fukushima is 800 kilometers away, from NK capitol. And I'm sure the entire globe will feel the effects of it too.

I was planning on asking this morning about this, but time flew by and I had to run out to school.

So what would happen if NK nuked Japan around Marine Corps base Okinawa or the like OR air burst and emp the area. Just a week or so ago we lost power to the reactor cooling water. What global or west coast of the US impact would an emp in Japan have? Obviously it wouldn't be good but I'm not sure to what extent the damage would be.

The last thing China want(ed) was a United States of Korea. In such a geographically significant area, and so close to China, it is important to maintain the disunity of Korea.

As for attacking Japan- this is sensationalized propaganda and NK is smart enough to not do this.

It was only a matter of time before someone else said it even tho I brought this up in about three other NK threads, but kudos to you for actually making another NK thread about this, cause no one was willing to answer that very same question. In my opinion not really sure how bad of a global a$$ kicking they would receive, but Im thinking it would be on the border of suicide as far as wanting any peace once the war drums are silenced. Not only would it take us out, but it would definitely render the pacific ocean useless as far as fish and other wildlife and that would spread to other oceans and so on. Every country would be fighting each other over who gets to take out that S.O.B.

Thinking its time to start a NK forum cause this is out of control. I think ive seen 4 new NK threads just today

MODS END THIS MADNESS!

Just a note here..but no one forces you to open a thing here. No thread HAS to be read and North Korea is making NEW news daily. Sometimes a few times a day on NEW actions, statements or concerns.

As a final thought, though I know some don't necessarily care.....some of us in America have family stationed within range of that madman's guns. Lots of people say 'He'll NEVER do anything!'.....and I say to that, I heard the same things in August of 1990. August 1st? Saddam was an Ally and invasion of Kuwait? Yeah right.. It's CRAZY! He just had a decade of war, after all.... August 2nd saw 100,000 troops and full armor columns taking Kuwait with brutal force. I watched all that live too.......

I'm not half as optimistic as others after watching what 'could never ever happen', happen ...in full color and live feeds at the time. I appreciate the updates, personally.

Makes about as much sense as it does for him to nuke SK.

Little to none, unless his is a suicide mission, which based on the mentality he has been displaying, may well be the case.

While I think it is all just bluster, with his seemingly mental instability, it is really just a guessing game at this point. Seems our own government even agrees, else, why worry about strengthening our missile defense system with regards to threats from NK?

Some doubt exists, regardless of how small, that much is undeniable. That should be a warning all is not well.

Well said, I too appreciate the updates. Since joining this site I rarely watch the news on the tv.

How far do you really think we will let thete psychotic actions go untouched.
And recently china actually agrred to agree to uphold and stand with the UN on their eber tightening of danction impossed on the psycho country. Im not to worried yet.

I will have to agree and say i feel the same as far as updates but there are an enumerable amount of threads that already exist that can provide updates, that's all I'm saying. The reason I chimed in was because I had brought this up before and no one wanted to discuss it in the previous threads, that is all. Everyone feel bad for me...

When you look at the dispersal patterns from when the quake and tsunami hit, did the wind not blow AWAY from china/NK and towards the western shores of the USA/Canada.????

Why would it blow the opposite way now?

My thought was: iin case of a second korean war, when Kim gets narrowed down. He just might do something really stupid, just to go out with a big blow..
Also i think that Korea has the recipe for WW3. (China, NK, maybe other socialist countries in South America against US, Japan, EU, Australia) WW1 was basicly started on the Crimean war, so you do not need another Hitler to start a big war.

Yeah a cornered animal can do all sorts of things whacky in the last throws of power.

Could our Governments be that stupid not to have the place locked down with anti missile technology?

Please tell me that we cant be that stupid we have not thought about this possibility?

We're not. You can bet there are some Patriot 3 batteries in SK, and of course, there are Aegis missiles on Naval ships. These are both part of the short range and terminal components of the BMDS (Ballistic Missile Defense System). The midcourse range component is in space, so that covers the area from ICBM types. I'd also bet dollars to donuts there are some ship based THELs and plane based ABLs also, but they'd only get used/revealed if a large scale missile salvo occurred. I wouldn't put a few land based (in SK) THELs out of the range of possibility either.

The ‘hit-to-kill’ PAC-3 Missile is the world’s most advanced, capable and powerful terminal air defense missile. It defeats the entire threat: tactical ballistic missiles (TBMs), cruise missiles and aircraft. The PAC-3 Missile is a quantum leap ahead of any other air defense missile when it comes to the ability to protect the Warfighter in their defining moments.

The PAC-3 Missile is a high velocity interceptor that defeats incoming targets by direct, body-to-body impact. PAC-3 Missiles, when deployed in a Patriot battery, will significantly increase the Patriot system's firepower, since 16 PAC-3s load-out on a Patriot launcher, compared with four of the legacy Patriot PAC-2 missiles. One hundred percent effective in Operation Iraqi Freedom, PAC-3 Missiles are now deployed with U.S. and allied forces.

The Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system is the primary sea-based component of the U.S. missile defense system. Aegis BMD seamlessly integrates the SPY-1 radar, MK 41 Vertical Launching System, and SM-3 missile through an advanced command and control system.

Twenty-six Aegis BMD-equipped warships - 22 in the U.S. Navy and four in the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force - have the certified capability to engage ballistic missiles and perform long-range surveillance and tracking missions. Twelve additional ships have been identified for modification to perform ballistic missile defense in the next 36 months and the U.S. Navy is considering up to eight more (DDG 114 – 121) Aegis-equipped destroyers.

If HELLADS is ready, that'd be cool to see:

The High Energy Liquid Laser Area Defense System (HELLADS), is a Counter-RAM system under development that will use a powerful (150 kW) laser to shoot down missiles, rockets, and artillery shells. The initial system will be demonstrated from a static ground based installation, but in order to eventually be integrated on an aircraft, design requirements are maximum weight of 750 kg (1,650 lb) and maximum envelope of 2 cubic meters (70.6 cubic feet).

The more powerful version will produce a 150-kW beam capable of knocking down missiles with the weight and size requirements for fitting onto fighter aircraft or a Humvee. In mid 2008, Janes Defence Review quoted the US Military that the program is on schedule to meet this ground test. Phase 4 of the program, involving outdoor testing of a weapon-power laser against tactical targets, was planned for 2010.
