Being politically correct today is starting to get out of control.

Has anyone noticed that in the past decade or so the Politically Correct (PC) is getting out of hand.

I seen a clip on this subject on Fox News and it got me thinking about all the PC stuff we do as a nation not to offend someone.

Schools are the worst offenders in being PC, since when do you call it winter vacation or Holiday vacation, for years upon years we all called it what it was CHRISTMAS VACATION, the best one I heard is it’s a “Holiday Tree”, like the guy said on FOX “What Holiday is the tree for then” for those liberals it’s a “CHRISTMAS TREE” , Really we took down the Christmas trees in the airports not to offend any one, Me personally I like to see the difference in each culture when I went through airports

Just like Easter, the schools have been calling it spring break, instead of Easter Break. Correct me if I am wrong but most of the holidays that are listed on the calendar in the United States are holidays that have been celebrate here for the last century or more.

Like I was saying the schools are the worst offenders everything that has to deal with a religion or not they change the meaning of the Holiday, it’s like the schools are starting to brain wash our kids to be politically correct and before you know it the holidays will not have a meaning.

I don’t complain about Kwanza or Hanukah, so why are people complaining about the American Holidays?

My opinion is if you are in the United States it’s your choice to celebrate them or not but don’t tell us your offended by them, you would be the first one to complain that you did not get Easter off from work, or you had to work during Christmas or the 4th of July.

So ATS what is your opinion about being Politically correct? Like to hear your thoughts on this

I have several thoughts on this. First off I'm assuming that you are talking about tradition. Because Christmas and Easter are both just retoolings of pagan festivals. Secondly I think that some people just need to get bent out of shape about things. I can understand the PC in schools. That's a political venue. Same with business. They have to cater to all to maximize profit. Individuals I find to be pretty OK. I was wished a Merry Christmas by an old Muslim woman that frequent my workplace. Christmas is nothing to her but she thought it did to me. I thanked her instead of telling her I was agnostic. Why crap on a person's good intentions? Individually I think we're fine.

It's not politically correct to post this on the internet...didn't you get the memo from the PC Police....

I agree with your rant.....

I'll be continuing to send out Christmas cards, decorating my Christmas Tree, and will only shop with my hard earned money with those establishments that wish me Merry Christmas when I walk in the door.

Yes I believe as individuals we are fine and do what we believe is right, but with the PC issues, even though it may be a religious holiday but we all celebrate that day with friends and family, The PC issues are now getting worst.

It would be like telling a Canadan that Boxing day is to offensive and we need to change it to "Guilt day" even though its a good jesture from your employer to give the worker (servant) a gift.

I guess what I am trying to say is why can't we just leave the hoildays alone and call them what they are instead of changing the words and meanings. Like I said its up to the person if they want to participate or not.

Political correctness is the delicate ability to appeal to everyone without offending anyone. Since that is impossible, they just censor everything.

Some hide behind the notion instead of allowing the truth be outed. Some are hand wringers who respond to everything with emotion instead of reason. Those are the ones that use "political correctness" as the excuse to strive to censor everything that doesn't appeal to their sensibilities.

Everyone else is held hostage by their anxiety. The more you try to appeal to their reason the louder they get in order to shut you out.

It takes on a whole new meaning on the internet, because you can't see the control freaks hand wringing behind the words they type. But you can bet they are there somewhere, struggling to get control of the censor button. Their ears are on fire and it hurts so bad.

Bang, Bang, on the big red button. We must have more control!

Christmas and Easter have just become commercial events. After the commercial build up to Christmas, on Xmas day there are adverts for the sales that people que up for at 4am waiting to get a cheap deal, less than 12 hours after digesting Xmas dinner.

Then the day after Boxing Day, the Easter eggs are in the shops ready for the next commercial gathering. It's all about the money, not really political correctness.

Why do people insist political correctness is left-wing? Is it that people simply call everything they disagree with left-wing? Do you think right-wing means 'right'?

Political correctness is a social issue, not political, and both 'sides' have their own PC. PC is the result of social decline, in a society set up for making a minority rich instead of a society that benefits all. A society of individuals, as apposed to cooperative, divides us, so people try to compensate with language. Language to try to change the way society has been twisted, and divided, by inequality.

Capitalism has created the divided society, and turned cooperative communities into cesspools of lost, and divided, 'individuals'.

United we win and divided we lose, you just have to wake up and realise who's side you are really on, the capitalist owners of industry, or your fellow working men and women.

We can work collectively, and still maintain our individuality. The fear of collective cooperation is how they keep us from being powerful and being able to create real change. The capitalist class collectivise through corporations and business societies etc. It's only the working class they want divided and weak.

Agree. I can't keep up with it. Just the other day I overheard a conversation where someone was talking about a very nice Black gentleman. The other person said, "Whoa! Don't ever call them that to their faces! The politically correct term is African American."

"No," said the first person, "the term was African American, and now they want to be called Black."

I don't know which is correct.

Brain damaged people were once called retards, then mentally challenged, then it became intellectually challenged. What is it now?

I'm really offended by the term "out of control" and I think you should choose a more sensitive phrasing. We are all well aware of the historical context of "out of control" and your decision to ignore that when making this thread makes me want to vomit.

Shame on you.

I think that the PC movement is an obvious effort to control thought. It reminds me of the development of newspeak in the book 1984. If you read the book, you may remember that the goal of newspeak was to limit creative thought of individuals by removing words to describe thoughts that were considered undesirable.

Remove the means of expressing an "undesirable" thought by suppressing someone's vocabulary, which is currently being done by creating social stigmas around particular language, and you will eventually suppress those ideas in society.

What are we REALLY teaching our children by making religion a taboo subject in schools?

it should have been stamped out back in the 70's-80's when it first started ... saw then it would lead to alot of problems causing society to fall apart ... they can take their political correctness and stuff it .... have better things to do than waste time on such idiocy ...

Sounds like you're another one completely falling for the FoxNews "War on Christmas" BS. Maybe try listening to this guy...from FoxNews. I would use any other media outlet, but that'd be ignored as "Liberal Lamestream Media!"

It's amazing how uncomfortable FoxNews anchors get in the presence of logic. It must be a foreign entity in those studios

As an 83 child I've seen many things change, all due to political correctness. And as an Aussie, the 70's and 80's were great years where most were happy and we had some great things.. Like Fags, a candy shaped cigarette complete with red glowing end, now called Fads, The golliwogs in Noddy, who have now been renamed. Even Mr Squiggle a beloved kids shows on ABC(Australia) in the eighty's, is now offensive. That's just naming a couple.

I remember in grade 5 we were doing a Christmas card but had to use put xmas instead of Christmas.. hell didn't I arc up then, only because we had a Jehovah's Witness in our class. Funny thing was his family were our neighbours and spend Christmas day with my family. and though they didn't celebrate Christmas as such, but to them it was a celebration of Friendship and they still passed gifts around. Something that holds to me this day.

Don't get me started on this renaming holidays bullcrap. It's Christmas and Easter... and I'm agnostic. Its our culture in Australia, what we celebrate, though at its core it all means the same. I hope whoever teaches my child keeps their core values in Easter and Christmas.

Politically and socially correct are way out of control. Look where we are today. Stop getting caught up in the emotions and start thinking rationally. Your future depends on it, don't be sheeple.

Because it is thought control and without that, liberalism would cease to exist.

Am wondering if it will ever be politically incorrect to call people who question things as "nutters" or "conspiracy nuts" ?
