Stumbled on this site when googling more info from Sub Brit and got quite into the military history of the UK.

I particularly like the lesser known sites. Found this one up on Otterburn Ranges.

If Google scale is right it is 700m and looks to be a run way. Wondered if it was for "rough/unprepared" base trials of the Harrier when used?

Can be seen on google maps here - 55.286405,-2.207201

Anyone have any thoughts?

Also whilst zooming around the area of google maps I found two more interesting bits.

The 1st is a very straight road into the base, and a parking lot next to it - again this looks like it could be used for the parking of small jets / harriers. It could just be a road I admit but it does look rather convenient?

Can be seen here - 55.258651,-2.177171

The second is just an interesting piece of landscaping to show a path into the ranges:

Two sets of forest land landscaped into two crosses. X marks the spot!
