Star Trek hired technical consultants to review the scripts, Lost in Space obviously didn't, but it's hard to understand how they could be so clueless even without technical consultants. In Lost in Space they were a million miles away and they made it sound like they were in the next solar system, but that's only 4 times the distance to the moon...pretty clueless writers on that show.
