Apparently, the Commander in Chief of Iran feels that if a monkey can brave the daring journey to space, so can he.

“I am ready to be the first human to be sent to space by Iranian scientists,” Ahmadinejad told a group of those scientists in Tehran. The state-run Mehr news agency reported the news this morning. “Sending living things into space is the result of Iranian efforts and the dedication of thousands of Iranian scientists,” he reportedly continued.

Personally, I think he might want to wait a few more years and see if he can send a cat up next. No one has ever sent a President up into space, for obvious reasons, but if he thinks he can...well, maybe they need a smarter President anyway.

What does ATS think?

I don't know why we didn't think of this sooner. Maybe we could even donate to the cause. Collectively, I think we should at least be able to buy the man a one way ticket to space. Probably the cheapest way to deal with a nut job like him.

But did a monkey survive the daring Journey?

Was Iran's Monkey Launch A Fake?

For one thing, there's the case of the missing mole: The monkey shown strapped into a rocket in photos had a red mole over his right eye, but the "returning" monkey did not. The original monkey also appeared to have lighter hair.

The founder of Space Israel, a non-profit organization determined to send an unmanned Israeli space ship to the moon, hypothesized that the actual space-faring monkey might have died of a heart attack or "that the experiment didn't go that well."
If the monkey died of a heart attack, and Ahmadinejad meets the same fate, will that be so bad? If he's replaced by someone worse than he is, that would be bad.

Sounds like he has a lot of fans.
What's the rush with going into space though?

Yay!
News about Iranian technology!
Time to make fun of smaller countries with less money!

We are so awesome!

If they can do it, then kudos.

There are a few other Presidents I could name that I would prefer to see being sent to space.

Well technically even the air in his head just gives neutral buoyancy, not enough to lift.
