Did the Heinz pay them to do it?

I Remember seeing a news clip of Mr. Kerry. (( The statement Mr. Kerry
made was if the Red Socks win so will I this year.)) This is Mr. Kerry's home town. Theory did they pay the other teams off to let them win? I think its awesome they won.
Is there a possiblity?

The statement Kerry made was something like...

Back when my campaign for the Democratic nomination wasn't going so well, someone told me that I would win when the Red Sox won the world series...Well the Red Sox won, and so to am I.

As for the Yankees and Cards both being paid off by anyone, sheesh...that's silly.
