It seems that the U.S. tried to cover their backs ahead of the final phase of the drama in Syria in a move that shows how much they have alarmed the (political) failure to control Iraq just nine years after the 2003 invasion and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein's regime: Important and authoritative Arab media record attempt coup in Baghdad to topple the Maliki government of the U.S. through business allies of the U.S., Saudi Arabian intelligence.

Iran is most probable as they are looking to stretch their influence and I don't think the Iraqi's want a US based Government either so thats two bugs on the windscreen
