USGS is currently reporting a 6.8 EQ,63km SSW of Sola, Vanuatu. 22:28 UTC. Hopefully this isn't the volcano waking up or the South Pacific could have a very uncomfortable Christmas season.

What do the geology types think? Could this be a precursor?

Probably not. That area is very active seismically, and was kinda overdue for something to hit. It's depth was so deep it probably was not really even felt.
Peace

I concur...I read too fast and saw the 209km depth as 20.9....

I thought it was much more shallow at first too. Had to take a second look as well.
Peace
