Who cares? As if its not a daily thing

yeah that's almost a daily event in Japan, i suppose the big one they are awaiting is the one to watch for. they are predicting a post Fuku quake of equal or greater magnitude since March 2011, i guess we'll wait and see what happens.

edit- i could really use some time in that amusement park.

In other words, they get quakes around this size quite frequently and have done so for ages. That quake today is actually quite minor by their standards and would barely have bothered the locals as they sipped their Cha.

I never said in my OP that this quake was of any significance, I simply stated that a 5.0 hit Japan, and placed the news in the Japan forum.

What has "God's gift to logic" got to do with it, OP?

If we want to discuss logic, then please tell me this: as this mag 5.0 quake is not of any significance then why did you feel the need to start a new thread for it?

Why didn't you start similar threads for the three other mag 5.0 or bigger quakes that have occurred in Japan during the past week? And why did you say:

-- if you are aware that this was not a quake of sufficient size to trouble anyone in Japan?

My logic miss / Mr, nay, my intention, is to spread information and facts.

Be they 7.0's or 5.0's I don't state anything to sensationalise this news, and so my logic is just that.

And so it's as simple as that.

With deep introspection I tried to encapsulate my feelings I had when I first read this thread. It took me back to the beginning of the revelations which came out of the Earth, in the form of Mayan tablets foretelling a dark time of destruction and devastation which would be unleashed on the inhabitants of our lonely planet. My soul seared and flinched as I read the OP and realized it was all coming to fruition. One naught think about the hundreds of thousands dead by American hands in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, given that God has decided to lay upon the Ramen bearing culture something so much more sinister and cruel.

And as I reflected, and tried to put this all into words.... I couldn't.


The only thing I can do at this point is rely on some of the greatest poets of all time, literary masters, artistic talents of stage and theatre, to express that which I must say as my heart breaks into a million pieces.




At first I thought Poe, and then Shakespeare, but it suddenly hit me.



The only person who can describe my thoughts on the matter.....

Not that I havent been guilty of it myself,.
But... it is comical to see the thread police pop up now and then..

As for Japan,, This the only location I am ever really concerned with simply
because of the #4 reactor cooling pool existing damage..That told potential
of the fallout from all those spent fuel rods melting down would really suck,

Well, okay. But to be honest if you do wish to post threads about quakes in Japan, it might be best to reserve them for larger ones. Otherwise, considering they typically get several per week on average (this week has been rather quiet) you could be awfully busy.

Looking at the positive side, it's great to see you getting involved in an important aspect of earth science. I wish more members would take an interest in the subject, as you have done. And there is no question that Japan is still waiting for yet another major event, most likely in the general region south of Yokohama/Tokyo.

Just a suggestion, if I may: for quakes, whether more significant or not, the annual "Quakewatch" thread is excellent for reference. Members there keep it regularly updated, not only with reports of quakes, but also other technical data, reports, graphs and detailed maps they produce themselves, and databases they maintain from a range of sources. (Just to be clear: I am not the OP of that thread. I just find it a great resource.)

I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in the complex but important field of tectonics.
