Twelve showing, plus the corresponding twelve on the other side, plus 4 molars not shown at this angle and their counterparts on the other side add up to 32... normal quantity.

But yeah, must've had good dental hygiene to have kept them all.

I read that some societies, in ancient times, they used skull shaping. Generally, the head shaping was used by "Royalty" The head shaping made it appear to the common people that they were Divine or something like that. I don't thing there is any big mystery here.
