What will happen when 2 advanced stealth fighters cmome across eachother. Would they need IR missiles like the Sidewinder. Or a more sensative tracking device. I know dogfights haven't truly occured in a while, but these new fighters are so versatile! The F/A-22 could probably called F/a/b/t/e-22. If the Su-47 is so maneouverable ( due to the FSWs) then will it prevail over the F/a-22. But the F/A-22 has more advanced weapons. LRAAMS ASRAAMS. Is the F/a-22 faster ( in know the performance is semi-classified) than the Su-47? I have also heard of a rotating R-33 missle bay AND external hardpoints in the Sukhoi.

Basically. What would be the outcome of a theoretical dogfight between 2 advanced stealth multi-role fighters???

This type hypothetical scenerio would boil down to who makes a mistake first, who has the better detection radar, and/or who has a "chink in their armor." Having and/or utilization of external hardpoints will reduce stealthiness, thus increasing its radar signature. IMHO, I do not consider the Su-47 as a true blue stealth aircraft in the sense that its stealth characteristics are placed or used in comparison to the F-22. It may have stealth characteristics, but again, not to the degree nor sophistication of the F-22.

In theory, if the stealth work right, you would end up with a Mach 2 version of a WW1 dogfight. The fight would occure untill the planes reach visual range, at which point you would end up with a gun fight. At this point, the detemination of victory would come down to pilot skill and experince.

Someone didnt get the memo about VS topics.

When it gets to the point that you have to make up things that will really never happen, Maybe you should go back and respond to some of the half a millon threads on the site. This same topic has maybe 30 threads on it.
