Well maybe this piece of news doesn't belong into Aliens and UFOs forum, but it is difficult for me to not see the obvious resemblance, so mods feel free to move to appropriate place.

At 300 meters from the village of Onavas, archaeologists discovered a site with 25 human burials, 13 of which have deformation of the skull, and five dental mutilation.

Now, am I the only one who see the wide eye opening holes which looks like extraterrestrial?
From the article, there are no recordings that these 'people' were practicing skull elongating before this cemetery was found.
Visit the LINK for the full article.
Page is in spanish, since it's the Mexican National Institute of Archeology and History, and you might want to translate it.

Very interesting indeed.

Is this perhaps a people that practiced head strapping?

On a side note: the nose, and jaw looks all wrong to be fully human.

Here is the translation form the site:

pre-Hispanic cemetery DISCOVERED IN SONORA *** At 300 meters from the village of Onavas, archaeologists discovered a site with 25 human burials, 13 of which have deformation of the skull, and five dental mutilation *** Such behavior is not ancient burials had been recorded in that entity, which refers to northern groups joined Western culture and practices of Mesoamerica 300 meters from the village of Onavas, south of Sonora, the first cemetery was discovered prehispanic that entity, has about 1,000 years old and is made of burials of 25 individuals, 13 of whom have intentional cranial deformation, and five of these also have dental mutilation, cultural practices similar to those of pre-Hispanic groups in southern Sinaloa and northern Nayarit , which were not registered in the state. Some wore ornaments made from bones and shells of snails Gulf of California, as bracelets, a nose ring, earrings, pendants and necklaces of shell beads, plus an individual was buried with a turtle shell placed at the height of the abdomen. Note that the burials were not accompanied by offerings. For archaeologists, the discovery is relevant evidence of customs that were not recorded in the old Sonora cultural groups: cranial deformation (frontal occipital) was applied to 13 individuals Cemetery ¬ ¬ ¬-known as the site-and modification by the wear of the side of the pieces to give them a "V". "finding the area meets unique because mixed expressions groups in northern Mexico ¬ ¬-like using ornaments made from sea shells Sea of Cortez-Western traditions never before found in Sonoran territory. With this discovery extends the limit of influence of Mesoamerican peoples farther north than it had recorded archeology. " This was emphasized by the archaeologist Cristina Garcia Moreno, director of the research project, which is conducted by Arizona State University , United States, with approval of the National Archaeology Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), to make known the findings derived from the 2012 excavation season. Archaeologist stated that Sonora had not discovered a graveyard as such, the closest is at the archaeological site of La Playa, where they have recovered more than 400 burials, "but that the skeletons were buried in and out of houses," and in this case, it is a specific area for burying the dead. Also, Garcia Moreno stressed that no other archaeological site in Sonora where modifications are identified cranial and dental, nor in the southwest U.S., the cultural area shared with Sonora, whereas "closest cultural groups who developed this kind of traditions are in northern Sinaloa and the National Wetlands area (southern Sinaloa and northern Nayarit), who incorporated their culture some Western customs and Mesoamerica. however, said, "Cemetery belongs Onavas migratory Mesoamerican groups, but one who had a sedentary local development and that at some point in its history established contact with Mesoamerica and incorporated some ideas into their culture. We are under investigation to confirm whether there is a relationship with groups of Sinaloa and Nayarit. " archaeologist Cristina Garcia explained that according to historical sources, the site must have belonged to the old Pima Indians, the region's cultural group whose descendants moved to what is now the Sonora-Chihuahua state line; might be part of a settlement located within the area of traffic were the peoples of the west coast of the U.S. southwest in the turquoise trade, "and in that move populations, the Pimas adopted new traditions from Mesoamerica. " After referring to people who buried their dead there, possibly inhabited what is now the town of Onavas, the researcher explained that the datings performed on human remains match Epiclassic Mesoamerican period (900-1200 AD). "A characteristic of this period in the area of Mesoamerica is that there were great migrations, people started going to the center to other places, dates also coincide with ancient burials deformed individuals, found in Nayarit and Sinaloa. " Cristina García said that cranial deformation in Mesoamerican cultures used to differentiate one from another social group or for ritual purposes, while the dental mutilation in cultures practiced in Nayarit puberty as a rite of passage into adolescence, which is consistent with the findings of Sonora, where the five bodies that are present over 12 years. "In this case, you can not even talk about social differences because all burials have the same characteristics, we have identified a pattern of burial hierarchies tell us.

It was kinda big

Nor have we been able to determine why some were ornaments and others not, or why the 25 skeletons only one were female, "he said. skeletal remains of 25 individuals recovered, 17 are children of between 5 months and 16 years and 8 are adults. In this regard, the researcher noted that the number of infants and pubertal identified in the cemetery, can be an indicator of poor practice cranial deformation, which caused his death by excessive force while squeezing the skull. This, he said, is derived from studies conducted on the remains, the results did not show any disease that could have caused his death. Finally, archaeologist Cristina Garcia noted that these findings are giving rise to further research in the southeastern part of Sonora that has been little studied, "the North, the desert, the Northeast and the coast are the most researched, from these findings it is known that the southeast is different from what was known, this side is completely new."

I was wondering what a "pre-hispanic", commonly called Pre-Columbian, as in before Columbus, cemetary would have to do with aliens.

It's skull shaping.

Not aliens.

Still, nice find, but, not aliens.

That's what she said.

But seriously that's pretty cool.
Why in the world would people deform their heads like that? Unless they seen it somewhere.
They were imitating something.

I'm not saying it was aliens.

The article points out that this was intentional skull deformation. Granted, they mention that this skull shaping was not a custom around the area of Sonora, but there are other area in ancient Mexico that this was a custom -- namely Sinaloa and Nayarit -- and the researchers are now investigating a possible relationship between the people of ancient Sonora and the people of ancient Sinaloa and Nayarit.

Why would people pierce their ears, genitals, and other parts of their bodies, split their tongues, get tattoos, put large disks in their lips, stretch out their necks, put bones or feathers in their noses, bind their feet, circumcise themselves, practice scarification, file and/or blacken their teeth, or get boob jobs?

People do wigged out weird permanent alterations to their bodies, often just because they can, or as a cultural practice that doesn't necessarily need stem back to alienseses.

Is that a dude in your avatar?

On topic: Besides the obvious elongated cranial feature, the jaw and cheek bones look abnormal. Something doesn't look right.
