Obama - Israel has every right to defend itself from GAZA missile attacks

President Barack Obama said Sunday that Israel has “every right” to defend itself against missile attacks by militants inside Gaza but warned that escalating the offensive with Israeli ground troops could undermine any hope of a peace process with the Palestinians.

"Let's understand what the precipitating event here that's causing the current crisis and that was an ever-escalating number of missiles that were landing not just in Israeli territory but in areas that are populated, and there's no country on Earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders,” Obama said at press conference in Thailand at the start of a three-nation tour in Asia.

“So we are fully supportive of Israel's right to defend itself from missiles landing on people's homes and workplaces and potentially killing civilians."

This might be the first thing Obama has said that I fully agree with.

Maybe I'm a paranoid conspiracist (well .. I post here so I must be) ... but look at the last Obama sentence. He said Israel has a right to defend itself from missiles landing on people's homes and workplaces and potentially killing civilians. Does that mean that if HAMAS targets Israels military then Obama would think it's legit? Or did I read too much into his statement? I'm wondering ....

It's already well known DC fully supports Israel, not like they needed to regurgitate this message. That said, I'm sure Hamas would love to target the IDF/IAF but they can't because their weapons are terrible. Hamas can barely kill an Israeli citizen.

Hamas is complete & the Palestinian people should vote them out ASAP because the only results they can produce is the death of their own people via Israeli strikes.

Sounds a bit like taking a machine gun to a knife fight.

Followed by some calming tones from the prez. ( still no commitment ... more people dieing.. wash, rinse, etc.)

Israel is an apartheid state in which European settlers established themselves and their cruel official policies of racial segregation involving political, legal, and economic discrimination against the indigenous Palestinian people.

It's unfortunate that a group of people have to employ violence in a desperate attempt to try and preserve their natural human rights. But an apartheid philosophy should never be tolerated by the people of this world, under any circumstances.

Hamas is the worst thing that the Palestinians could have. Hamas doesn't care about Palestinians. It uses them as human shields. It steals their donation aid money. Get rid of Hamas and the Palestinians could easily see a raising of their living standard ... there wouldn't be any more Israeli rockets being fired at the Hamas rocket launchers and there would be a whole lot more aid money actually getting to the Palestinians instead of the Hamas thieves.

GAZA has any right to defend itself and reach defensive weapons.

it is really vain to think that Israel care about anybody in this world ! especially Palestinians !! they want to annex Gaza to their Israel !!! Now, from what he said, those countries have the right to defend themselves? Picture that in the U.S. Having all those countries retaliating. They would have the right would they not? If Hamas really wanted to take care of the Palestinian people in Gaza, they would use the hundreds of millions of dollars they receive annually in foreign financial aid to invest in the well being of their people instead of buying weapons and rocket launchers to try and murder Israeli civilians.

The Palestinians living in the West Bank under the moderate leadership of Mahmoud Abbas of the Fatah political party are far more prosperous and enjoy a higher standard of living.

The people of Gaza who voted for Hamas are now living with consequences.
