BP gets record US criminal fine over Deepwater disaster (arrests may be made)

www.bbc.co.uk

BP has received the biggest criminal penalty in US history as part of a $4.5bn (£2.8bn) settlement related to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster, in which 11 people died.

The Department of Justice has imposed a $4bn fine, to be paid over five years.

BP will pay an additional $525m to the Securities and Exchange Commission over a period of three years, the firm said.

According to the article these penalties are to be paid on top of 7.8 billion being paid to the plaintiffs. I am not sure if this is money going to the victims or the other companies. I don't think any settlement should be made without some type of concession for future damages and health related claims from corexit.

What do you think?

I can't see arrests with this one and I fear that part of this story will disappear and besides that, I'd rather see those responsible clean up the mess they themselves created. Apparently it's even more of a mess there after Hurricane Isaac.
